Village
Harpley is a small inland village which dates to the time of Domesday Book, if not earlier, and the name probably refers to salt-panning (from the 'salt-harp', a filter used in salt manufacture in medieval times). Northwest of the village are remains of Bronze Age round barrows, and a Neolithic long barrow stands on Harpley Common.
The historic church of St Lawrence boasts a lovely angel roof, with a restored 14th-century rood screen and lovely carved wooden pews from 1638. Perhaps the most impressive feature is the beautifully carved south door, decorated with a panoply of figures of saints, Tudor roses, the Four Latin Doctors, crockets, and religious symbols within an arrangement of decorative niches. The effect is simply stunning.
The church itself is primarily 13th century and has an excellent example of 14th-century stained glass in the east window of the south aisle. One curiosity is that several French nobles are buried in the churchyard. They settled here after escaping from the French Revolution.
There's a superb historic local pub, The Rose & Crown, with a fantastic atmosphere and a great, seasonal menu that’s regularly changed.

We had a lovely week at Mill View, the cottage is very nicely furnished and comfortable. Well positioned for visiting other villages and not to far to get to the coast with its amazing beaches.
We had a very enjoyable stay in a very pleasant cottage. The local pub served excellent meals as did the pub in the next village Great Massingham just a 10 minute drive away. The cottage was conveniently situated just minutes from the main road so you could get anywhere within a short drive.Sandringham was a ten minute drive away. Hunstanton has a good walk up the coast to Heacham.
As bird watchers, we really enjoyed Sculthorpe Moor Hawk and Owl Nature Reserve and the proximity to the North Norfolk coast. We enjoyed our second stay at Mill View and love the location.
Mill View is a cosy cottage with plenty of out door space and nice walks around the village. Harpley is well located for Sandringham, Market Burnham, Swaffham and Wells-next-the Sea. Houghton Hall is on the doorstep as well the pretty village of Great Massingham which is worth visiting to watch the ducks in the pond and to pick up supplies in the village store. so lots to do within 30 mins drive.
Mill View is comfortable and is well equipped with everything you need and is lovely and peaceful for sleeping well. Good wifi for browsing places to visit etc.
A well planned cottage for 2 or 4 people. Clean, tidy and comfortable it has stayed in our memory as a nice place to stay. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and there are pleasant villages nearby. We easily reached the North coast to do some birding and it only took a short time to get to Holt for a railway ride. We discovered a beautiful station renovation not far away on a closed line and there was plenty of bird life.
Nice seating areas The property was comfortable and well stocked with the essentials. Lovely comfortable cottage in a nice village with great pub.
At Mill View we liked the tranquillity of the position and proximity to the coast and local attractions
