Beaches
Great for families and on the Norfolk coastal path with two great beaches on the West coast overlooking The Wash: North beach and South beach (aka Stubborn Sands) are both dog friendly and form a huge 20 mile bay and enjoy the most dramatic sunsets. A perfect spot to watch the sun going down and hit the sea on a fine evening. The village enjoys a range of small shops, arcade, cafe and fish bar. There are three local pubs The West Norfolk, Fox and Hounds and Bushel and Strike.
Village
Famous for its Norfolk Lavender with aromatic gardens and fields filled with all varieties of lavender. With their own oil distillery, products, tearoom and animal garden and play park. Just next door is Farmer Freds Adventure Play Barn for children and parents to enjoy indoor play farm themed fun, as well as a great Farm Shop selling lovely local produce.
If keeping mind and body in check is your cup of tea, then a visit to Heacham Manor where you can dine, spa or book a round of golf on the lake side championship 18-hole course.
History
Famed for association with Pocahontas, the Rolfe family are the most famous inhabitants of Heacham, from the 16th century. After seeking adventure in The New World it was John Rolfe who married the Native American Rebecca (Pocahontas), and along with their 2 year old son took them back to his family home the former Heacham Hall. The image of Pocahontas adorns the village sign and also the St Mary's the Virgin Church.
Visit
For a great family day out and only a few miles away is Snettisham Park Farm. A working Farm with lovely activities for the family from egg collecting, bottle feeding lambs and pony rides to a ‘not to be missed’ deer Safari.
There are plenty of wildlife spectacles to explore, with tens of thousands of wading birds to observe from the hides at Snettisham Nature Reserve.
Hunstanton Town is just 3 miles from Heacham and is a traditional seaside town with the added addition of fun water sports such as kite surfing and windsurfing.
A visit to Sandringham House, gardens and country park is a popular destination for all. Whether you simply want to take the pooch for a stroll, or discover the royals much loved country retreat, you’ll have the grandest of days.

Second stay at Violet and enjoyed it so much we have booked for Christmas. Just love this property..it makes a perfect beach holiday in lovely Heacham..
Perfect holiday home. Swimming in sea. Watching wildlife from balcony. Walking along beach. Wonderful!
Beautiful quirky property ! Fantastic view over the nature reserve and just a five minute walk to the beach through the dunes. Everything you need is here. Lovely and clean and well maintained. The view from Violet across the nature reserve. 5 minutes to beautiful beach with amazing sunsets. The peace and quiet! We had a lovely stay here!
Our 2nd visit to Violet, 3rd already booked for September, absolutely love this property! From the moment you walk through the door you fall in love with it. The views from all the windows, the patio doors the whole length of the decking overlooking the River Heacham, it's,stunning ! The property is immaculate inside and out,the owner is friendly and helpful. We don't look for other holiday properties now, this has everything we want.I didn't use my car once in the whole 2 weeks we spent in Violet,we got shopping delivered, walked to local shops. Violet for us is somewhere to come and relax, go for long (or short) walks, the Wild Ken Hill project seen on Springwatch is very close by. You can see so much wild life just sitting on the balcony at the back of the property and if its not great weather you can still see it sitting indoors. Sunsets/Sunrises ,the sound of the birds and sea. Perfect!
We have stayed in the violet many times. It's like a home from home. Violet is well stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It's clean inside and outside. We can't fault the violet in anyway. Also area is lovely and quiet. We love sitting on the decking watching the wildlife across the river and walks along the beach.
Perfect stay at Violet. Lovely setting with everything that you need for a great stay. Lovely beach and lots of good walks nearby, along with a few good pubs ! Highly recommended. Location to beach and great walks for dogs.
Lovely stay at Violet with sister and her grandchildren. They were very excited to go away and on arrival we were not disappointed. Violet is a bright, spacious and comfortable holiday home in beautiful surroundings. We all loved having breakfast on the decking, enjoying the beautiful views and feeding the ducks. On one wet day we baked cookies in the well equipped kitchen with the children and made use of the board games in the evening that our hosts provided. Thank you. Enjoying family time in spacious comfortable accommodation. Enjoyed Violets peaceful countryside and beach location and friendly neighbours. Watched some glorious sunsets from the sand dunes. The children loved feeding the ducks and being able to walk within minutes to the sand dunes and beach although we only swam there once. Lots in the area to do on wet days: visiting Sea Life, crabbing on Wells Quay, milling and baking own loaf of bread at Bircham Windmill.
We have stayed in violet several times now and really enjoyed staying there. Everything is provided for an enjoyable stay. Its always clean when we arrive. With a dog having the secure decking at the back is most welcome. Owner is friendly and we often had a chat while we were walking the dog. We have stayed in many homes on South beach and storage has often been a problem but violet has a lovely big cupboard off of living room which is an added bonus. Walking along the beachWatching the sunsets.Sitting on the deck watching the wildlife across the river. Watching stars at night as no light pollution.Enjoyed the quietness while relaxing on decking.
Having found Violet in April we were lucky enough to find a week available in July and snapped it up. Its been a lovely holiday in 2 parts, I've been here with my mum and dad at the end of the week and my husband and son at the start. Everyone aged 19-75 loved it! Hoping to be back in October.
Perfect family holiday!! Thank you so much. We had amazing weather to go with it too! We'll be back. Thank you for the most amazing week!
Good morning Sowerbys Holiday Cottages Team
Just wanted to say what an amazing property this is! Looks gorgeous in the photos but absolutely stunning when you actually see it!
Immaculately clean,views are beautiful!
We have stayed in quite a few of your properties along South Beach over the last 6 years and we didn't think our last stay would ever be beaten but it has :)
We definitely will be back
We have had a lovely break in Heacham staying in Violet. We have been blessed with wonderful weather, so have enjoyed walking to Hunstanton along the prom and along the bank. Lovely to be so near to the beach for early morning walks with the dog. Very relaxing and every comfort provided in a calm environment. Will definitely return, Thank you.
We have had a lovely Easter break, really impressed with how well laid out this place is - it has everything you need. The views are stunning and luckily we had four days of sun, sea and sand in our paws. Ready to go back to work feeling refreshed. Thank you.
Thank you for the most enjoyable holiday. We have been coming to Heacham for many years and are glad we have found Violet. It has everything we needed for a lovely family holiday with our dog. It was oreo's first holiday with us. He loved the long walks and exploring along the beach and river. We hope to see you soon for more adventures in Violet.
Many thanks for a wonderful break in Violet. We were most impressed with all the decor etc. It was really lovely and warm and in a lovely setting. We spent our time visiting the surrounding countryside. We would definitely recommend Violet. A lovely break and we would come back. Thanks again for a lovely time.
Property was perfect, very warm, very clean and exceptionally bright and airy. Absolutely fabulous place to stay.
A lovely retreat for my birthday & time away from the busy world we live in. The peace and quiet here is amazing, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay as did our German shepherd. We never thought we could tire her out, but after several beach walks and travelling, she finally slept fitfully! The wildlife is lovely, muntjac deer, marsh harriers, oyster catchers & more! We will definitely be back as soon as time allows! Thanks.
In this very mad world - We feel very grateful that we have had a fabulous week. Loved staying in Violet. It is just perfect - everything you need and lovely and warm. We have watched marsh harriers, barn owls, red kites and hares from the window. Great walk going on to the beach and turning left, go as far as the sea defence, come down over the other side and there is a track that takes you to the grass bank (that you can see from the window) turn left and head back to Heacham ( approx 4 miles circular walk). The views over the wetland of Wild Ken Hill is where they filmed spring watch is amazing and teaming with wildlife. Recommended lunch at Thornham Deli (get there early about 12 to avoid queueing). Wish we could have slowed time down, such a perfect holiday, many thanks!
We have been to Heacham several times, but Violet was by far the best place we have stayed at. Location was brilliant for us and our 4 year old son. Plenty of walks, Hunstanton, Wells, etc. Walked a couple of mornings to Hunstanton on the beach for breakfast at Ski Cafe, which was lovely. Our son went to the swimming pool in Hunstanton a couple of times and loved it. We're looking forward to coming back.
We had a lovely stay over Christmas, despite bucketing rain on several days. It was lovely that we'd been left a Christmas tree, complete with lights! Warm and cosy house, very clean and comfortable. Enjoyed by humans and dogs alike, who especially appreciated having lovely walks straight from the house.
We really enjoyed our short stay! We managed to see the sunset over the beach and we spent a few days exploring the surrounding villages. Really recommend the silk road Chinese as well, some lovely food. Overall great week and we'd love to stay again.
Really enjoyed our stay, so peaceful and relaxing. Very comfortable accommodation, clean and well equipped. A new part of Norfolk for us and we fell in love with this county all over again! Managed to photograph the kingfisher that visited the jetty two days running and enjoyed the Swan & cygnets! Visited Titchwell once again & Hunstanton layer cakes. Lunched at The Gin Trap at Ringstead- Very good. Heacham fish bar served good Fish and chips and easy parking at Tesco. Thank you.
Suited us very well excellent position for beach combined with countryside views at the back.
Violet is very well equipped and everything was in perfect working order. A really cute decor, comfy sofas and wonderful location. We shall definitely return again.
We liked the excellent location, so quiet. As it’s all been refurbished everything was fresh and new. Lovely big bed in master bedroom. Loved the outside space, private and tranquil. Comfortable furniture and a good shower. Very friendly owners nearby but not intrusive. Liked having a dishwasher and bbq and availability of a shed to store our bikes. Would return in a heartbeat, had an amazing holiday!
Bliss!! Had an amazing week. Absolutely loved Violet and will return. Perfect weather, comfortable and clean. Loved sitting on the jetty reading my book and feeding the ducks and swans. Very quiet and recharges, we are sadly leaving for home, Than you.
Very clean looked recently refurbished extras such as washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. Great property!
Violet we liked for the cleanliness, and the fact the property was once a boat. Our family had such a lovely stay, the property was perfect, well presented and clean.. Our young boys loved how close they were to the beach and loved that the cottage was once a boat.
Violet really lived up to the pictures and description, it was also very well equipped and stocked ... It was perfect
