Village
An attractive Norfolk farming village which is defined by the large pretty duck pond in the heart of the village. Many of the properties in Stanhoe are constructed from traditional brick and flint with curvy pantiles on the roof, making for many pretty chocolate box homes.
There is a great award-winning gastropub in Stanhoe called The Duck Inn known for its use of local produce and delicious East Anglian Ales. A warm inviting feel greets you in this village eatery and a great menu, making it a good destination either for a nice evening meal or a relaxing drink - make sure you book ahead!
History
The village has been a farming village since the Romans, it was the Saxons that gave the village its name Stanhoe (Stony Hill).
In the 19th Century the parish priest was Philip Ward the husband of Lord Nelsons daughter Horatia.

Lovely, homely cottage, very comfortable! Good weather, Gin Trap was super, had a lovely meal!
The New Cottage is perfectly positioned to explore inland and the coastal region of North Norfolk. The village is lovely; the play park is always quiet and great for dogs (one of a few in the area that allows dogs on). The New Cottage is well appointed with everything you need for a perfect holiday. Second stay in this particular cottage and would highly recommend it to anyone. We enjoyed the weather! Beach days at Holkham and Holme are always great when the sun is shining. A visit to Wells is always great especially if you time your stay with the festival (which we did!) as so much goes on during that week. The residents in Stanhoe are warm and friendly, there’s a little market stall of home grown produce on Cross Lane and the open bar at the village hall was a nice touch.
Very nice cottage in a good location for the coast. Clean and tidy very comfortable and private. The large enclosed back garden was ideal for our dog.
Beautiful cottage - we couldn’t fault a thing. Comfortable, well equipped and decorated lovely. The garden was perfect, a good size, and loved by my two cockapoos. In a perfect location to reach all the local beaches and walking trails. Will definitely be back. The cottage was beautiful, garden perfect and ideal location for visiting all the local beaches and walking trails.
New Cottage in Stanhoe was everything we hoped it would be. The weather during our stay was not sitting out beach weather so it was lovely to come back to such a lovely house. when there was sun the top of the garden in the afternoon was a good place to sit. The house was wonderfully equipped. However as always things like toilet rolls and washing up liquid were not really adequate. The highlights of our stay were really related to the lovely lunches we enjoyed at the eating places we knew from previous visits to Norfolk.
The location and size of the property ( for an 4 bed) are the main plus points for us. The fridge freezer is also a good size.
This is the first time we have rented this cottage and I can say both my wife and I enjoyed our stay and felt comfortable and relaxed in the cottage. The garden was secure and ideal for our dog and being close to the Duck we enjoyed a short walk to have a fabulous meal.We shall certainly return.Comfortable, quiet, and clean house. Allowed us both to unwind and enjoy the peacefulness of Stanhoe. Also within a short drive of Hunstanton beach and other places we like to visit when in Norfolk.
We had a lovely week staying in The New Cottage. This was our first time staying in Stanhoe but I certainly hope it won’t be the last. Beautiful beaches visited in the area included Holkham, Brancaster and Holme next the Sea. We will certainly return to this beautiful part of the country. : The cottage was in a lovely quiet location. It had a real home from home feel about it. The secure, enclosed rear garden was ideal for our small dog. We have stayed in several Sowerby holiday cottages and this was certainly one of our favourites.
As always a lovely comfortable cottage with everything we need, our third stay and we will definitely be coming again!
We absolutely loved this cottage! Really spacious and with everything we needed. The garden is beautiful too and we enjoyed eating Al Fresco each day. Short drive to the beach and taking long walks along the sand at Brancaster. My mum and I had a wonderful stay and I’ve already booked for her to stay again next year!
This is a lovely quiet and private base to explore North Norfolk. The cottage is spacious and comfortable with good on site parking. We enjoy easy access to the coast for walking and birdwatching as well as enjoying the excellent local produce and pubs!
Our 2nd stay at this lovely cottage. It’s in a really nice location, quiet with a good field for walking the dog. Weather was amazing!.
Another lovely stay. Great cottage, very comfortable and had everything we needed. The dogs loved the garden and it was so nice to see the rabbits of an evening. Very nicely located, close enough to the coast but away from the busier areas.
Had a wonderful stay in a very spacious property in a lovely location with outlooks both back and front.
The garden was ideal for the dogs and for sunbathing ,yes there was sun and nice garden selection of garden furniture We would gladly return next year
Lovely as always! Our third stay and we are very comfortable and relaxed here. The layout works really well for our family.
Another lovely stay at this cottage and although it's been 3 years since we last visited everything was just as good, if not better, than our previous stays here. Would definitely recommend this property and also the location as Stanhoe is a really nice village close to Burnham Market and all the wonderful Norfolk beaches The large television and fridge/freezer which have both been changed since our last stay at New Cottage were a nice surprise!
We again enjoyed our stay in this comfortable cottage which met all our needs. Good heating system much needed in March.Comfortable sitting room and secure garden for the two small dogs. Rabbits in the garden were kept safe and the dogs amused.
The cottage is so convenient to the coast & countryside walking but good to stay in and be cosy with the fire during the winter days & eves.
It is within walking distance of our favourite pub/restaurant The Duck Inn.
Well placed to visit Burnham Market and all surrounding villages.
A lovely dog friendly cottage ,set in a quiet location in North Norfolk, close to brancaster beach. We have stayed in this cottage many times and find it really comfortable and perfect location as we have friends who live nearby.
Our stay at New Cottage always great. the Weather was great! Perfect location for us to visit our fave restaurant-The Duck Inn.
Beautiful setting, spacious cottage and great location. Hearing the owls at night, beach visits, relaxing in the cottage. Sitting in the garden in the evening and seeing birds migrate.
Lovely cosy cottage, super location for peace and quiet! Hopefully see you soon.
We found New Cottage to be clean, comfortable and warm. It was ideal for our break with the dogs!
Well equipped, good quality furniture, warm homely feel. We would stay again!
The New Cottages was very comfortable great shower! An extremely warm and comfortable cottage look forward to returning
We really enjoyed our stay. Loved the cleanliness and the smart decor, very homely feel. We loved the house, lovely inside and wonderful location opposite the field, perfect for our dog and children to run off some energy. We would very much like to rebook another weekend.
The New Cottage was as we expected. we liked the cleanliness 10 out of 10. I was a little apprehensive about coming on holiday and staying in a cottage where lots of other people had. been but I needn’t have worried. It was spotless like walking into a brand new property. We would stay here again!
The New Cottage we liked for the space and light and warmth. We would like to stay here again!
The New Cottage was very comfortable cosy and welcoming so good that we have already booked for next year!!
A very pleasant, warm and comfortable cottage which is very comfortable and we would strongly recommend,
My safe haven, such a lovely comfortable, cosy cottage. My withdrawl symptons have been satiated but only temporarily. So many lovely beaches and places to eat. No Twenty 9 restaurant very good at Burnham Market
Another comfortable stay. Absolutely no problems. Will be back!
Thank you for a very comfortable holiday in a peaceful area. The barn owl performed for us!
Lovely spacious kitchen/dining area and lovely big sitting room. Just to comment on the garden; it was very well equipped with garden furniture.
Our third visit to the area. Absolutely love it.
First visit to the cottage. Good location. Cottage very spacious and cosy. Lovely big garden.
Had a wonderful stay. Every day jam packed with activities. Brancaster beach is our favourite but every beach is lovely and dog friendly.
Jolly Sailors pub great for families and dogs. Brancaster Staithe good for crabbing.
We have stayed here several times and very much enjoy it. We like The Duck Inn and the fact that we can walk our dog around the field at the front of the cottage. The cottage itself is a relaxed and comfortable place to stay.
We had a fantastic break in your lovely holiday home. We went to Wells, Holkham and Burnham Market. We will definately come back again. Would recommend hiring bikes out at Holkham HAll, great for adults and children.
We enjoyed the cottage very much. Harry and Fudge loved the garden.
Comfortable , home from home, well equipped. Best cottage we have ever been in. Spotlessly clean, broadband great. Definately would like to come again. Quiet and relaxing.
Our second stay at The New Cottage. Lovely accommodation roughly 20 minutes from everywhere we wanted to be.
Another great stay made even better by the weather. Food at The Duck Inn good as ever. Hired a boat at Wroxham and spent 2 few hours on the Broads. Wonderful experience.
Thanks for a very comfortable stay. Am sure we will be back.
Peaceful location, comfortable and convenient for the Duck!
2nd visit and sure to return. Such a well appointed and homely cottage
This was our 5th time at the cottage, suffice it to say we like it!
Loved this cottage it really was like home from home. We havestayed in many cottages but this was by far the most well equipped and comfortable and cosy. Have enjoyed our week and feel very relaxed and dont want to leave. Will definately book again.
A super place to stay, the children loved the freedom of visiting the playing field. We all enjoyed being able to walk to the the Duck Inn.
Highlights of the week:
Pensthorpe - wonderful outdoor play area
The Crown at Wells - fabulous food and service
Holkham - Kayaking, cycling and cricket watching
Holkham and Holme beaches - body boarding and channel digging.
We live in Cyprus but visit the area several weeks in the year as I have family in Burnham Thorpe - we always rent cottages for our stay, and to date this is the best cottage that we have found. We normally book for 4 weeks over the Christmas period, and very sad that this cottage is not available.
A totally glourious week spent in your lovely house. Fabulous weather and beaches, what a joy!
Another lovely stay, fab cottage with gorgeous garden.
Had a very enjoyable week despite the cold and windy weather. We found the cottage to be very warm and comfortable. Very well equipped and in easy reach of the coast. We enjoyed a good Sunday Roast at Creake Abbey cafe.
Sorry to be leaving, hope to return
We have had a wonderful week in Norfolk in this beautiful Cottage, so comfortable and so warm. Everything has been so very well though out to make your guests stay as comfortable as possible so very well done.
Our dogs loved the garden.
Certainly recommend the Duck Inn, great food.
Thank you very much.
We really enjoyed The New Cottage and got to see the Local Barn Owl of the field in front of the house three times!!!
The best bits were that the cottage was dog friendly, spacious, warm and in a great location. It was very clean and exceeded our expectations.
