Village
Docking is an attractive central village only 3-4 miles inland from the North Norfolk Coast, making a great base to stay and explore the whole of North Norfolk. It's a traditional farming Norfolk village which boasts a village shop with post office, traditional pub and a fish and chip shop too! Its located close to Burnham Market within easy access of the coast with Brancaster to the north and Hunstanton to the west. The village also has a lovely church St Mary’s, village school and a ‘must visit’ farmers market which takes place on a Wednesday morning in the ‘Ripper Hall’ village hall
History
The village has an elevated position, in the past was nick named ‘Dry Docking’ as it had no water supply other than rainwater. In the 1760’s a single well was dug for the village providing domestic use for a farthing a bucket. The water was also transported around the village by horse and cart selling the water by the bucket.
Visit
There is such ease of access to all villages and attractions with Houghton Hall to the south and Royal Sandringham Estate and House also nearby. The superb coastline with RSBP reserves and all of the areas of outstanding natural beauty are nearby to explore. There also are lots of routes from the village for cyclists and walkers.

Bungalow was better than we’d anticipated really. Clean and nicely decorated throughout. Warm too, with plenty of hot water. White fluffy bath sheets…..usually only bath towels are provided. Nice attention to details throughout the bungalow. Just, thank you!
Very comfortable bungalow, nice and clean , close to all the places we like to visit. We love all the walks, Brancaster beach, Thornham to Old Hunstanton, Burnham Deepdale to Burnham Overy Staithe, Cley to Salthouse where we had a delicious lunch at the Dun Cow, Sunday lunch at Orange Tree was lovely and Hero in Burnham Overy Staithe was as good as ever.
What a lovely place. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Kids enjoyed their stay and a fantastic time had by all. We will be back again! One of the best cottages ive ever been to.
Lovely new property, quality fixtures and fittings. Lovely decor and well thought out design. Great kitchen and a comfy beds. Will definitely return. We had a lovely time in Norfolk. Our first time several NT properties visited along with Holkham beach and nature reserve, Hunstanton, Sandringham and Holt. The property was even better than the photos which were very good. So quiet and great dark skies. Useful store in the village and easy access to the surrounding area. Will definitely come back to Norfolk and stay in this property or others. The somewhat last minute booking was handled brilliantly by a lovely lady and we had a call the next day from a helpful colleague to say the property would be available earlier. Great customer service and so easy to arrange. We had a lovely time Thank you so much for your help !
Really great bungalow. Fully equipped, modern, well maintained, clean and in a great location. We had everything we needed and more! Had such lovely touches especially children’s books and brio. We had a fantastic stay and a really memorable family holiday. Thank you
We had a lovely stay at The Hideaway 6A and the property was beautifully presented and very clean. Also, we’d love to know where the sofa was from as it was super comfortable!
