Guest Reviews

Lovely cosy, comfortable cottage in a fabulous location. Fortunate with the weather - bitterly cold but beautiful sunny days - perfect for walking and bird watching. Appreciated the great scones and jam - very welcome. Perfect visit and we will be back.

Thank you for creating such a warm welcoming Christmassy home for us to enjoy. The cottage was a great place to come home to after a day's wandering with the dogs. It always had a warm and cosy feel as you stepped through the door. It offered everything that you would want in you per home and more. It is a place we would be excited to come back to next year!

Had a lovely time despite the 2 days of rain!! Was nice to come back to a cosy cottage - loved the open fire! Managed a beach walk with the dog yesterday on Brancaster and even the seals came to say hello! Cottage is lovely - cannot fault it, has everything you need for a nice stay - the scones on arrival were a nice touch. Jo was a brilliant host - we even extended out stay by a day as we didn't want to leave! Will definitely be back.

A great stay in this comfortable and well equipped cottage. Lovely weather so did lots of walks. Thanks Jo for the lovely scones and delicious jam on arrival. We also used some of your thyme - great to have herbs on tap! We were lucky enough to be able to have cream tea in the garden twice.

Thank you Jo for such a lovely cottage. It was a warm, comfortable welcoming cottage in a perfect place along the coast for us to explore. We enjoyed the excellent meal you made for us, as well as good meals locally. I am sure we will be visiting samphire cottage again.

The Gardham's - 21/09/2018

Better than Expected the cottage was spotless and very welcoming on arrival. The owners care to attention, everything you needed was on hand. The information pack was incredible useful and very understandable. We would stay again The Owner had added her own artwork so the cottage felt very homely. We really appreciated the home cook food on the 1st evening.

What an amazing holiday we have had. Norfolk never lets us down and Samphire Cottage was the icing on the cake. Wonderfully equipped, having two of our boys birthdays whilst we were here and we wanted for nothing. BBQs in the beautiful garden were perfect with pubs in walking distance and beaches on our doorstep. The weather was great as the sun shone everyday till we left! Thank you for creating a perfect family getaway with the the lovely added touches - scones on arrival, the jam was delicious!! The boys are sad to leave this little haven as are we. We will certainly be back. PS your artwork is incredible - a lovely touch!!

We had a lovely time, cottage ideal! Scones were yummy!

We've had a great time up in Norfolk. Samphire cottage has been a great base to explore from. Lots of time has been spent at Brancaster beach. With a 2 year old and a 2 month old we enjoyed the sea life centre and animals at the lavender farm when the weather wasn't good. Thank you for e delicious scones and jam. We can highly recommend Jo's supper that welcomed us on our first evening. A great holiday!

We've had a lovely stay at samphire cottage. What a lovely cottage, sweet garden and fabulous location. And your scones and jam were delicious - thank you so much!

Our first time in Norfolk and it did not disappoint. We've had a lovely stay. Cottage has been great, perfect for our needs. Cosy and warm. Lovely walks on your doorstep and saw a couple of seals on Brancaster beach which made our day. We didn't eat out much but the local produce has been great. Eaten lots of fish from the fish shop up the road or in Burnham Market. The Nisa shop sells good quality fresh produce too. A really lovely spot. Thank you.

A wonderful beautifully kept cottage in an ideal setting. We have had a lovely few days exploring the coastal walks and fantastic pubs. This has been the perfect start to 2018 and we'll be back to make more memories soon! Until then......

The Waites - 29/12/2017

Our first visit to Samphire cottage and we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you for the delicious scones and jam - they didn't last long!! We had ordered one of Jo's meals for our arrival and we can really recommend this. Altogether a fabulous holiday. Even the weather was kind to us. Lynne and Derek Oct 017

Arrived to fresh yummy chololate and raspberry brownies (gluten free!), table set for supper (gluten free!) and food beautifully prepared. What a start to a fantastic week here. Weather amazing. Visited all out old haunts.

Thank you again, such a comfortable lovely cottage to stay in made perfect by the delicious scones! We will be back.

The Smiths - 12/05/2017

First stay at Samphire Cottage and will definitely be back! Very relaxing and much needed few days away. Great walks and sea air to clear the mind, and a cottage with all the mod cons to make it feel like a home from home. Many thanks for making it such a great break for us.

The Sloanes - 09/12/2016

I would just like to let you know that my wife and me had a wonderful three days in the Samphire Cottage in Brancaster Staithe. It is a lovely property, beautifully kept and having an open fire certainly made it for us. We did write in the visitors book but if you could let the owner know anyway how much we appreciated it, then we would be very grateful. We hope to return next year...it is a great part of the country to kick back and relax in. Thanks once again.

The Ross' - 08/11/2016

Another fabulous fortnight in Samphire Cottage, weather was fantastic and Norfolk delivered again. Pensthorpe is a great day out for a cloudy day. The crab are probably bored of being caught and released. Cottage is again just the ticket, cosy, comfortable and fully teenager friendly. Looking forward to our next visit. Another fantastic stay at Samphire Cottage. Always feel so welcome, more like house guests than holiday visitors. Jo's personal touch is so evident in many things around the house and garden. Some lovely weather and made full use of many of the beaches and walks in the area. Like the walk up to the Common (up the road from the Jolly Sailors). Best meal (of many great meals) at Jolly Sailors. Also enjoyed the Golden Fleece in Wells again. I don't doubt we'll be back again for our fourth visit!

The Duttons - 19/02/2016

Best Norfolk holiday ever and Samphire Cottage was a home from home. Its beautifully and thoughtfully equipped with a relaxing garden and excellently located for all that Norfolk has to offer on the coast and in the country.

Mr & Mrs Webbe - 19/06/2015

We spent a fabulous long weekend at Samphire Cottage, a perfect base to explore this part of the coast. We couldn't have wanted for anything else in the cottage or the location. Everything we needed was right here. We will be back! And what a welcome surprise - homemade scones and jam! What a delicious treat. Thank you Jo.

Brancaster Staithe

Location

A bustling village with an attractive harbour which is just to the east of Brancaster (staithe means wharf, or landing stage). There is a well-supported sailing club here and in the summer at high tide there is always a crowd of people and boats jostling to get onto the water. The sea still gives a living to many in the area though and Brancaster Staithe is famed for its mussels, which may be bought locally at The Fish Shed along the coast road.

Just off the coast of Brancaster  Staithe, Scolt Head Island is a four mile long sand bar housing a National Nature Reserve well-known for terns, oystercatchers, and ringed plovers. You can take a boat trip with Branta Cruises to visit the island.

The village is a picturesque one, with typical flint walling on many cottages, and popular with second home owners and holiday makers. There is good beer and food available throughout the day at the Jolly Sailor's pub, or for more of a treat with stunning views and delicious food there is The White Horse overlooking the marshes which has just been voted the county's eatery for 2018 in the National Pub and Bar awards.

Next to Brancaster Staithe is Burnham Deepdale which has a Norman church, a visitors centre and a good selection of shops, including a small supermarket, Fat Face and Gone Crabbing.  After a brisk walk on the beach or an invigorating sail there's nothing better than a trip to the ever popular Deepdale Café, renowned for its hearty English breakfasts.
