Village and Harbour
Brancaster Staithe is the coastal village nestled between Brancaster and Burnham Deepdale which flow into one almost continuous settlement. The village boasts a picturesque fishing harbour with sailing club with sailing school, two lovely pubs, The White Horse with outside dining that looks over the Staithe and has a great seasonal menu. The Jolly sailors which boasts a national family pub award, they have an outside eating area, play area and serve delicious pizza as well as putting on music events as well as an Ale festival. Near the harbour is the National Trust Activity Centre, just off the coastline is the Scolt Head Island National Nature reserve as off shore 4 mile long sand bar that extends from Brancaster to Wells-next-the-Sea. You can take a boat trip with Branta Cruises to visit the island, also great for bird watching so take your binoculars. Be sure to pop to The Fish Shed for some lovely sea food and the famous Brancaster Mussels.
On the Door Step
Burnham Deepdale merges with Brancaster Staithe and has the Dalgate Market shops, cafe, great for breakfast, tourist information and bike hire. Annual Spring Market, 1940’s weekend and The charming Christmas Market are some of the events you can visit at Dalgate market
With the Norfolk coastline being one of the most diverse in the country many of the beaches have something different to offer. The Coastal Path makes for beautiful scenic walks to take in the sea air. There is some great wildlife form the many Nature reserves, Titchwell, The Lookout in Holkham Nature Reserve and Cley Marshes Visitors Centre to name a few. Some more unusual animal encounters might be the Llamas in Wells or the beautiful seal trips from Blakeney or Morston.

Our first visit here at this time of the year. Lovely to see the views without all the ‘new growth’. I’m sure we will be coming again at this time of the year as well as later! The only disappointment was that the outside furniture was missing so although the weather was good we couldn’t make use of the roof terrace. We are looking forward to our stay here later in the year. Taking in the wonderful views and spotting the variety of birds around, including the daily showing of the water rail.
Absolutely love Sail Away. This is our third visit and, we hope, not our last. Watching the very high tides come in and out. Spectacular! It's perfect!
This is an absolutely delightful upside down house. We have stayed here on three consecutive years out of season and are always thrilled to be back. You cannot get any closer to the shore and all the bird sightings . The house is warm , modern ,clean and equipped as well as any home , without being overly cluttered. The highlights of our stays always involve water- messing about with our dog in the sunshine at Overy Staithe in the estuary at low tide and then off to the Hero. Hopefully back next year!!
Beautiful as always Booked to stay again! Beds so comfortable and the house is so well equipped. Highlights the view!
This was our sixth consecutive year staying at Sail Away during the winter. The accommodation & location suits us very well & we have no hesitation in returning next year. The very cold weather we had for some of our stay did not prevent us bird watching. Being able to stay indoors but still having excellent views of the many birds that feed in the creek below is a real attraction.
Beautiful as always. Amazing view and very well equipped.
We love Sail Away. The views are truly wonderful and the accommodation extremely comfortable.
I spotted this property while kayaking through the creeks as I’m an instructor for Hunstanton Kayaks and we run guided trips from Brancaster Staithe and thought it would fantastic to see the creeks and marsh from a different point of view! Wow! It certainly didn’t disappoint. Spent all week watching the tides, birdlife and harbour activity from the house which was just amazing. Highlights watching the tide, birdlife and marsh, sunsets, sunrise. Fantastic way to celebrate my 50th birthday.
We enjoyed our stay at Sail Away. The view is amazing. Spent hours bird watching. Perfect!
Fabulous location, easy to get to, great layout, very practical, especially with a dog. Watching the tide coming in and out from the balcony. The t-shirt in welcome pack was a fantastic gesture!
Another lovely visit to Sail Away, wonderful location and beautiful property. Watching all the activity on the harbour and the tides come in, sunsets and lovely places to visit close by.
We can’t say enough good things about Sailaway. It really is the best holiday property we’ve ever stayed in. Outstanding views, well appointed, extremely comfortable and in an excellent location. That view and all the lovely walking opportunities on the doorstep.
Our 7th visit as always superb. Amazing high tides. Our favourite cottage just going to book for next year. Comfy cottage Amazing views.
Another lovely relaxing stay. We love the views and peace and quiet.
First class property in pristine condition. The location was the reason we selected this property. Everything was provided to ensure a perfect stay. The roof terrace was a delight. The sunsets were out of this world. The cleanliness of the property was top notch.Everything in the property was provided to a high standard.Sowerbys Holiday Cottages is very professional. We called into your office the day after our arrival to thank you for the standard of the property.
We had a lovely time at Sail Away. The views were breathtaking. My 1.5 year old was fascinated with the boats and the rising and falling tides. Very well equipped and safe for toddlers. The views and location for sightseeing, walking and amenities and evening meals.
We had another wonderful relaxing week at Sail Away. . This is our favourite holiday cottage, amazing views, constantly changing with each tide. The cottage provides you with everything you could need for a relaxing holiday. Long walks on the coastal path with our dogs. Great places to eat. Been to Sail Away many times, returning again in July can’t wait!
Just a perfect North Norfolk holiday home. Great house. Great view. Great location. Sailaway gave us the opportunity to completely wind down by enjoying the wonderful view. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the ebb and flow of the tide and the birds that came with it. We will definitely be back. Sailaway is a marvellous place. Thank you to the Sowerby’s team and the owners for providing such a wonderful property.
It was our second stay at Sail Away and it was just as good as the first time. The cottage was spotless and we felt very much at home. We were also warm. We were lucky to have two fair, sunny days and could enjoy the wonderful views at Sail Away.
Fabulous view - beds amazingly comfortable Very well equipped with good quality equipment
Lovely property with the best views. Well equipped and comfortable. Will be back!
Wonderful few days at a lovely property. Great utility room on ground floor for wiping down dogs Superb views Well equipped Cosy Would definitely recommend.
Another wonderful stay in this well positioned apartment.
The house is great and we will come again.
The views are fantastic. Very comfortable and stylish apartment always a pleasure to visit.
The views were amazing and always something to see. We were there for a Spring tide and that was spectacular. Also being on the Coastal path was a bonus with easy walking access to The White Horse. Although the opportunities are rare I wonder if you might mention in the handbook that the property offers a tremendous opportunity to spot the Northern Lights especially given the accessible roof - there is a freeApp that alerts you to possible Aurora sightings -“AuroraWatchUK” . - we were “gnashing our teeth” when the highest red alert popped up the night after we left! but thats a good excuse to visit again. We loved the place.
Excellent property in a great location. Brilliant views from the roof terrace. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in a special place that offers something a bit different from the norm. Loved being able to watch the changing views from the balcony and roof terrace. One of the best properties we’ve stayed in. Ticked all the boxes.
A wonderful holiday as usual, superb cottage, spotlessly clean and amazing location
Just a short stay this time to celebrate my birthday. Wonderful birdwatching from the balcony. Lunch and dinner at the Jolly Sailors and the White Horse, were lovely as ussual, cant wait to be back in May.
As always sad to leave this lovely place. First time ever the tides were low and never came right up. Loved it and will certainly be back.
Another wonderful week. Weather was great. Lovely walks and views of the high tides. Highlight visiting Snettesham to to witness the spectacular show of Waders.
We had a wonderful 4 days at Sail Away. Amazing views. Very clean and well equipped cottage. An effective wood burner which we were happy to have to raise the temperature a bit as it was very cold outside! Waking up to the amazing views with all the different species of bird life and watching actives at the harbour.Great walks for us and our dog from the cottage and on various beaches.
What a lovely cottage with wonderful views. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back soon.
outstanding position and very comfortable well planned home with the best possible views. Highlights, Curlews and greenshanks. it's a great place and we will be back.
Another great stay, weather was good and lots to do and see. Very high tides this week completely covering the car park. Will be back soon!!
What a delight this house was. Well equipped and furnished. Views were spectacular, from the bedroom window over the marshes, to the view from the living area of all sorts of bird life. Just perfect.
The view is astonishingly lovely.
Second stay and once again sail away very welcoming. Very comfortable and immaculately clean. Looking forward to returning once again next year.
Well equipped, comfortable and with living space bigger than it looks in the photos! 360 degree views from the roof terrace and dual aspect views from the lounge.
The views from the property were better than expected...the side views and bedroom views were not anticipated. The roof terrace was beyond expectaions. The general ambience of the property and the way it had been firnished was also a highlight. I wish it was mine!
Another enjoyable and relaxing week at Sail Away. Looking forward to our stay there again next year. We like most the views from the lounge and rooftop
Sail Away was wonderful as usual - we’ve been several times. We like the views and the proximity to the harbour.
The location is second to none. Wonderful to watch the comings and goings just outside or just enjoy the peace and quiet watching the birds and the tide ebb and flow. Lovely bedding as well.

Excellent property (our favourite location) and excellent service from Sowerby's in all the properties we have been fortunate to rent on your beautiful Norfolk Coast, Sail Away is the perfect property in a perfect location, it was as well equipped as being at home.
The property was just as we expect. 10 out of 10 for cleanliness and 10 out of 10 for the garden. We love the views and the comfort of the property. We will be returning next year.

Just as lovely as last year. The fabulous views as usual and the proximity to the harbour. We’re already looking forward to next year’s stays there ! We really appreciated having a boat store key to keep our paddle board in.
At Sail Away we liked the open plan space looking out to the amazing views across the salt marshes. We loved our stay so much we have booked again for next year, what an amazing place and location, we had such a relaxing time.
A truly relaxing and much needed break after all the stress of keeping our own business afloat during the pandemic and lockdown. Sail Away and north Norfolk has become our default bolt hole. We love the views. The open plan living area

Better than Expected. Hard to imagine how wonderful the view is from the brochure. 9 out of 10 for cleanliness and the outside space.
Better than Expected. A lovely position close to the creek, marsh, harbour and sea with perfect views. It was like a luxury warm hide and we watched birds all day at close range. Wonderful. 10 out of 10 for the cleanliness of the property. We loved the views and warmth and it was well equipped.
