Village

A tranquil and picturesque village making a great destination for those wishing for a relaxing escape. Binham is renowned for the ruins of Binham Priory once a great Benedictine Monastery, parts of which still survive today as the atmospheric Saint Mary's Parish Church. The village has the benefit of a village store, The Chequers Inn a splendid and welcoming traditional pub serving good food and ales and The Parlour cafe that serves breakfast, lunches and afternoon teas. In the centre of the village is a green where you can admire the traditional Norfolk brick and flint buildings. You can step out of your door and enjoy roaming the countryside for a peaceful walk through the village.

History

Binham has an entry in the Domesday Book of 1085 as Benincham, and Bin(n)eham. The entry mentions there were two mills in the area and the landowner was Peter De Valognes. The Binham Priory remains and the Church of Saint Mary which is the remaining nave of the once much bigger priory are in the care of English Heritage and are Grade 1 listed buildings.

Guest reviews

We (two couples and our two legged friends) loved our stay at the Old Mill Cottage. The "cottage" is finished to a very high level whilst the outlook and grounds are beautiful and tranquil. We were lucky enough for sun at Easter but also had an afternoon of rain when the wood burner looking at the views came into its own! Also recommend adding the hot tub to your booking!Stay Highlights: - Stunning location and outlook - Property finished to a v high level (and v clean) - Hot tub v easy to use.

Lovely accommodation, very very quiet. Fabulous outlook and great views from all windows Would certainly recommend (and we have stayed in hundreds of self catering accommodation). Lots of places to eat nearby Holt garden centre do nice meals and fantastic cakes. We took our bird feeders and watched many species at least 8 .

The Sleath's, 18th of March 2024

Quiet. Great garden for dog. Very happy to stay there for our 2nd time. We have booked for 2 weeks in the summer, it’s ideal for us.

The Green's, 19th of February 2024

OUTSTANDING PROPERTY IN LOVELY SURROUNDINGS A JOY TO COME BACK TO AT THE END OF THE DAY.

The Hinton's, 24th of November 2023

This was our second holiday this year at the Old Mill Cottage and we plan to return in April next year. For us, it is very restful and easy and very importantly the garden is fenced so we are able to let our dog loose without worry. Standards of cleanliness are impeccable and we just enjoy being here, We were fortunate to have good weather for the whole of our ten day stay, unlike our stay in March when apart from one day it rained . We were able to enjoy sitting out in the garden area enjoying the views and making the most of what we enjoy in the area, walks with our dog and expeditions to visit local beaches and The Parlour cafe.

Mr Ruiz, 5th of October 2023

Modern open plan cottage in a lovely quiet location and good private garden for our dog.

The Green's, 29th of July 2023

The baby rabbits and the views. Sunrise and peacefulness.

The Palmer's, 19th of June 2023

Fabulous home. If it is vacant for your dates, book immediately. Fitted and furnished at top level, stunning location and wonderful enclosed garden. Had the most amazing few days and will definitely return. If you love peace and tranquility, wildlife galore and glorious views, this is the place for you. The Natural Surroundings at Bayfield Park is a great place to visit. Wildlife gardens, plants to buy and a smashing coffee shop. Brancaster beach is stunning and great for dogs, also has a kiosk selling coffee and great sausage sandwiches. Binham Priory, Holkham Hall well worth a visit and Back to the Garden farm shop and Little Walshingham farm shop good for food shopping.

The Foot's, 6th of June 2023

The ‘cottage ‘ is immaculate , very comfortable and tastefully presented. The large grounds and views were much enjoyed despite the awful weather. The owners have made a very fine job of the cottage but most of all the beautiful restoration of the Mill, it’s lovely.Lunch at The Parlour in Binham was excellent.

The Ruiz's, 5th of April 2023

The accommodation was just what we wanted for a few days away with our young dogs. Cosy and warm and very comfortable.Location was perfect for walks on the beach too. Would highly recommend.

The McLaren's, 20th of March 2023

The cottage is set in picturesque and tranquil surroundings with a delightful outlook onto the adjacent windmill. The garden is large and provides good space for children to play. The accommodation is generally well appointed and with a good level of quality furnishing. It has an ease of access to local areas so overall a lovely place to stay
