Village

Possibly one of the prettiest villages in North Norfolk, this Georgian village is within easy access to the North Norfolk Coast, still with a quaint feel, with many trendy shops. The village retains a ‘step back in time’ feel with leafy green trees and picturesque village green. Burnham Market has a traditional post office, book shop and hardware shop as well as beautiful boutiques and lifestyle shops, from the butchers and baker to fine dining and deli’s. There’s a superb fishmonger Gurneys with locally caught seafood including Brancaster mussels and Cromer crab - be sure to try the amazing fresh fishcakes. It’s a lovely village to visit to peruse the shops or even for a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. There are a lot of eateries to choose from… The Hoste for fine dining or afternoon tea, No Twenty9, The Nelson, award-winning Socius, Burnham Tearoom, or Tilly’s Cafe, there’s something to suit every taste. There is also a children’s play park, hard tennis courts and two parish churches one at each end of the village. If in need of a little pampering why not book a treatment or two at The Hoste Beauty Spa.There is also a dog groomer so you can have the best pampered pooch in the village.

Visit

With a scenic ride to the coast, you can enjoy lazy days on the beaches of Brancaster or Wells. Alternatively pull on your walking boots and investigate diverse coastal path walks, taking in all the birds and wildlife. Leave the car behind and pop on the Coastal Hopper bus and do a tour from Wells and The Burnhams to Norfolk's west coast. Don't forget to visit Holkham which not only has a superb beach, but majestic Holkham Hall which is well worth a visit: hire a boat on the lake, hop on a bike to explore the woodlands, test your bravery on the rope course, play in the woodland play park, take in the breathtaking rooms and art in the main house or simply enjoy tea and cake in the courtyard cafe. If big houses are your thing there are many others to visit with Houghton Hall and its fantastic sculpture collection, the house and grounds of Royal Sandringham to name a few! Get on the water, there are many activities from kite and windsurfing in Hunstanton, sailing in Brancaster Staithe, seal and boat trips from Brancaster and Wells, or take a beautiful trip on The Coastal Exploration Company and learn about the wildlife, trading and smuggling in the salt marshes or along the coast.

Guest reviews

Great central location for the three of us, opposite the supermarket. It was always possible to park our car outside the cottage, despite all the through traffic in a tiny road in both directions. Well equipped kitchen. Downstairs bathroom has a great shower, but is not really suitable for an older person, rather hazardous! We enjoyed Visits to great cafes and restaurants (The Burnhams Tea Room and Cafe for brilliant breakfast, friendly service, excellent Hero at Burnham Overy, although very busy in the evening). Burnham Overy Staithe is rightly known as Chelsea on Sea), walking to the dunes, Holkham Hall for a great outing.

The Bowring's, 9th of August 2024

We had a wonderful stay at Nelsons Cottage over New Year 2024. It is probably one of the cosiest cottages we’ve stayed in and the fact that it had been decorated for Christmas was a really nice touch. It’s in the perfect spot to access all that Burnham Market and the surrounding area has to offer, especially the great choice of pubs and restaurants. The cottage has pretty much everything you could need and is very comfortable, it really felt like a home from home.

The Newman's, 8th of January 2024

Lovely location perfect for walking into Burnham Market, beaches really beautiful and around 10 to 15 mins drive away. Quaint little cottage, just the right size for 2 of us and a little dog, nice to have an outside courtyard. Location as the restaurants in Burnham Market are excellent Bed is amazing best sleep for a week, I have even ordered the sheets from John Lewis they were that nice.

The Bannister's, 23rd of August 2023

Beautiful cottage which has given us wonderful memories. Very close to amenities and spent some good times in the Host.

The Pringle's, 12th of January 2023

A beautiful little cottages We had a fantastic stay and recommend this little gem. A 2 minute walk into burnham market, with a good choice of pubs. The hoste does excellent food. Nelsons cottage is well equipped, very cosy and easy street parking. The stairs are very steep and doorways low, but did get use to it after a few bumped heads. Would definitely recommend this place.

Lovely cottage, very comfortable and cosy. Excellent location, just a short stroll to the heart of the village with its independent shops and good choice of pubs and restaurants. We had a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable break.

Chris, 22nd of October 2021

Small but very comfortable little cottage. Our Golden Retriever loved it also. The area is very convenient for all the great walks. Just wish there was a dog walking area in Burnham Market apart from road walks and the small village green.

Preston, 5th of July 2021

We like that dogs allowed at Nelson Cottage, and he had a nice safe yard to sit outside in. It was perfect, bedding was amazing and all mod cons.

At Nelson Cottage the backyard is perfect and it is very clean. Second time we’ve stayed at the property & yet again would give it 10/10 comfy, cosy & with a fantastic backyard. Great location & never had a problem parking outside the property. All in all another great holiday in burnham market.

At Nelson Cottage there was extremely comfy beds, and a lovely lounge with the open fire. We had a lovely stay at Nelson Cottage, which has such a warm and inviting feel to it. Even though the weather wasn’t on our side we had a very cosy and comfortable stay!

The Noon's, 25th of September 2020

Nelson’s Cottage is a delight place to base yourself in the lovely village of Burnham Market. The cottage is beautifully decorated and well-kept and there is plenty of living space for 4 people. The finishing touches were very pretty and the bathroom was particularly spacious for the size of the cottage and newly fitted. The location is really convenient for all the amenities of the village with a lovely view over the Church and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We knew the cottage would be lovely from the photos and info but it was just such a lovely place to stay in all aspects. It was enclosed. Perfect for our dogs. I imagine in warmer weather it would be a lovely place to sit in and relax.
