An attractive Norfolk farming village which is defined by the large pretty duck pond in the heart of the village. Many of the properties in Stanhoe are constructed from traditional brick and flint with curvy pantiles on the roof, making for many pretty chocolate box homes.
There is a great award-winning gastropub in Stanhoe called The Duck Inn known for its use of local produce and delicious East Anglian Ales. A warm inviting feel greets you in this village eatery and a great menu, making it a good destination either for a nice evening meal or a relaxing drink - make sure you book ahead!
History
The village has been a farming village since the Romans, it was the Saxons that gave the village its name Stanhoe (Stony Hill).
In the 19th Century the parish priest was Philip Ward the husband of Lord Nelsons daughter Horatia.
Visit
Stanhoe is close to the popular Georgian village destination of Burnham Market, known for the great selection of independent shops that surround the picturesque village green. There's a butcher, baker, hardware store, popular fishmonger and also lovely cafes and many eateries,as well as boutiques and galleries to peruse. Another lovely stay at Michaelmas, such a high quality “cottage” with all the right features and that lovely open feel. Thank you, we will be back (again)! As a group of adults (grown up children now!), it’s great to be able to cook, dine & lounge all together in the big open space at Michaelmas and we took full advantage of this with several lovely nights in, just cooking and eating together.
House was lovely, modern and very spacious for 5 adults and 2 dogs. In a quite village with a local pub which is walking distance. A enclosed field opposite the property for the dogs to be able to exercise and run freely off lead. The weather was perfect, which allowed us to explore the local area, visiting Sheringham, Holt, Old Hunstanton, beaches in Brancaster and Holkham.
Peace and quiet and a comfortable house. We enjoyed seeing the barn owl hunting in the field behind the house.
The cottage is beautiful and well equipped. We had a week of rainy weather, so were grateful for a spacious and warm house to relax in. We loved watching the birds each morning (in particular the owl swooping over the garden). The cottage is within easy reach of some beautiful beaches. We recommend parking at Wells nature reserve (national trust so a bit pricey!) and walking through the woodland to Wells. Overall a lovely place to stay and we would definitely recommend. Houghton Hall is well worth a visit. The gardens are beautiful. We also enjoyed hiring bikes (huff and puff cycles) and cycling through the woods, watching the steam train, and down to the coast.
Excellent property. Well presented, clean, and very well stocked with crockery, cutlery, glasses, etc. Very comfortable as well. If we choose another Norfolk holiday, we will definitely seek to return here. Walks on the coastal path, visit to Blickling Hall, lovely villages (e.g. Little Walsingham), and great local pub/restaurant (The Duck)
Overall a very nice property, ideal for 6 adults (3 couples) as has the three bathrooms.
Excellent house keeping as usual. Layout is perfect for us as is the location. Will keep coming back.
A spacious, stylish and well equipped property in a lovely quiet village location. Peace and quiet together with stylish and comfortable accommodation. The playing field opposite was ideal for exercising our dog.
A lively, luxurious bungalow in a wonderful setting! We loved our stay and felt it was probably one of the best equipped cottages we’d hired in Norfolk. Highlights watching the meteor shower through the beautiful roof windows above the dining area!
A fabulous cottage in a great location for exploring the North Norfolk coast and villages. Well equipped and very spacious. We loved our stay here. Peaceful quiet location but walking distance to a lovely pub (but sad to hear when we visited it was closing on Sunday but hopefully this will be temporary). The food at the Duck Stanhope was excellent. Had some great beach walks at Wells , Brancaster, Cromer and Old Hunstanton - all dog friendly. Loved pottering around Burnham Market & Wells. The coffee and cakes at BTOI (Wells ) were fabulous as we're the croissants & bread from the Two Magpies Bakery at Cromer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Michaelmas. It was very peaceful and in a great location for exploring the beautiful north Norfolk coast. We would definitely stay in this property again.
Lovely spacious and comfortable property with everything you could need. Will definitely be booking the property again when we come to Norfolk next.
Stay Highlights: Hot water tap!
Property rating: 5
Amazing place. Love the open plan layout and quality furniture and other thoughtful items. Will be back again.
A spacious property, well laid out within walking walking distance of the duck. A very nice bungalow will definitely stay again.
Michaelmas is a fabulous holiday cottage. We loved everything about it. Super stylish, light airy kitchen diner, quality appliances (we loved the proper self-clean ovens), comfortable beds and lovely bed linen. We have already booked our stay for next year. Thank You!
Always a nice relaxing stay at Michaelmas
Absolutely loved the house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would recommend to family and friends! The decor and how comfortable / luxurious it was - Yes it was great!
Lovely modern bungalow with nice open plan living area and comfortable beds in a peaceful location. Quiet location, beautiful outlook at the rear.
At Michaelmas we liked most Its contemporary feel, the furnishings are lovely and make for a very relaxing stay
At Michaelmas we like the open plan, modern living area. A fabulous cottage that we would recommend to others and would like to revisit.
Amazing property great layout, very modern clean and spacious - very nice home. We would stay again!
The property is furnished and decorated to a very high spec - it doesn't feel like a rental but a very comfortable home with lots of very tasteful decorative touches.
Lovely open plan house, well equipped and good location to explore Norfolk, The beds were comfortable and I loved how the house was open plan. 10 out of ten for cleanliness.
Better than Expected. Arrived after hours as planned and the keys were waiting at the Hoste Arms as promised. Michaelmas is a tardis and has been renovated to the highest standard. During our visit the outside temperature was -5 but we were as warm as toast thanks to the underfloor heating and wood burner. The presentation was pristine with an abundance of quality towels kept hot on the towel radiators. Each morning at breakfast we had the opportunity to watch a beautiful barn owl hunting across the field behind. The outstanding Duck pub is in walking distance and the stunning coastline just moments away. Bliss!! 10 out of 10 for the cleanliness Nothing could have been better. The only thing to make it better would have been a longer stay! We had a wonderful stay thank you all for organising this on our behalf.
