Village

Possibly one of the prettiest villages in North Norfolk, this Georgian village is within easy access to the North Norfolk Coast, still with a quaint feel, with many trendy shops. The village retains a ‘step back in time’ feel with leafy green trees and picturesque village green. Burnham Market has a traditional post office, book shop and hardware shop as well as beautiful boutiques and lifestyle shops, from the butchers and baker to fine dining and deli’s. There’s a superb fishmonger Gurneys with locally caught seafood including Brancaster mussels and Cromer crab - be sure to try the amazing fresh fishcakes. It’s a lovely village to visit to peruse the shops or even for a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. There are a lot of eateries to choose from… The Hoste for fine dining or afternoon tea, No Twenty9, The Nelson, award-winning Socius, Burnham Tearoom, or Tilly’s Cafe, there’s something to suit every taste. There is also a children’s play park, hard tennis courts and two parish churches one at each end of the village. If in need of a little pampering why not book a treatment or two at The Hoste Beauty Spa.There is also a dog groomer so you can have the best pampered pooch in the village.

Visit

With a scenic ride to the coast, you can enjoy lazy days on the beaches of Brancaster or Wells. Alternatively pull on your walking boots and investigate diverse coastal path walks, taking in all the birds and wildlife. Leave the car behind and pop on the Coastal Hopper bus and do a tour from Wells and The Burnhams to Norfolk's west coast. Don't forget to visit Holkham which not only has a superb beach, but majestic Holkham Hall which is well worth a visit: hire a boat on the lake, hop on a bike to explore the woodlands, test your bravery on the rope course, play in the woodland play park, take in the breathtaking rooms and art in the main house or simply enjoy tea and cake in the courtyard cafe. If big houses are your thing there are many others to visit with Houghton Hall and its fantastic sculpture collection, the house and grounds of Royal Sandringham to name a few! Get on the water, there are many activities from kite and windsurfing in Hunstanton, sailing in Brancaster Staithe, seal and boat trips from Brancaster and Wells, or take a beautiful trip on The Coastal Exploration Company and learn about the wildlife, trading and smuggling in the salt marshes or along the coast.

This is a lovely, clean, well equipped bungalow in a quiet cul de sac, and not far from the shops. We really enjoyed our time here. Watching the geese fly over the property every day.

The Childerly's, 4th of October 2023

A comfortable, spacious and well presented bungalow.Very conveniently located at end of village and central for the north Norfolk coast. The gift bag (especially the wine) was much appreciated. Our visit to Walsingham Shrine and Abbey grounds was very interesting. Wells next the Sea is a lovely village with many shops and cafes. The Sea henge exhibition in Kings Lynn is well worth visiting.

The Horne's, 24th of August 2023

Spacious and well equipped holiday house. Useful outbuilding for extra storage. Plenty of space in the kitchen to store groceries and a large American style fridge freezer. Lovely garden with furniture. 5 minute walk to a convenience store and a bit longer to Burnham Market for more shops. A good playground close by with a football field.Very comprehensive information about the house - easy to understand and photos to help. Also, written respectfully, valuing the guests. Good location to visit the beach and other places of interest within 20 mins drive.

Lovely, clean, very comfortable bungalow. Everything you need is there, could even make Christmas dinner if wanted to, plenty of utensils pots and pans etc. lovely garden for dogs. Close to all the best beaches. Our dogs loved it.

The Bennet's, 23rd of August 2023

Lovely bungalow in a quiet location but within easy walking distance of Burnham Market. An easy lay out, perfect for our needs as grandparents of a 1 year old and a small dog in tow. Gorgeous baby room for Wilf and room for his travel cot which we hired from Sowerbys. We enjoyed playing cards and games in the conservatory. The garden was lovely too for breakfast and very private. Relaxing place to come home to after a grand day out. We shall book again. We know this area very well so it was great to visit our favourite beaches, Brancaster, Wells and Holkham. The dog has never gone back so fit …she loves running after a ball on the beach. Baby Wilf enjoyed his days out too. Our son-in-law has never visited the county of Norfolk before and thought it was amazing.

the Chandler's, 8th of August 2023

Very practical home.
Good instructions and clean throughout.

The Smiths, 5th of May 2023

A very comfortable, well-equipped and clean property in a very convenient location - we would definitely use it again if/when we return to North Norfolk. With three generations, including baby of 9 months, and two dogs we tested it thoroughly and really appreciated the thought that had gone into planning and maintaining it so well. We had everything we needed and it was great to be able to let the dogs outside and know that they were safe. Hiring a beach hut at Wells😃, great fun! Walking at Brancaster beach and on Sandringham Estate. First time using Sowerbys. Very impressed by the service provided - helpful and friendly. Thank you also for letting us know about Happy Huts!.

The Miller's, 24th of April 2023

Lots of little extras like tissues, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were appreciated, thank you. Lots of jigsaws, dvds' games and books in the bungalow. Kitchen is well equipped. Sofas and bed very comfortable. Ideally located for easy access to the coast and just a five minute walk into the Main Street. We are looking forward to coming again. Visiting nearby coastal villages and beaches. Lots of walking along the Coastal Path with the dogs.

The Harper's, 28th of March 2023

As always , a wonderful week on the North Norfolk Coast.Harpers is in an ideal location . It is spotlessly clean , well maintained and well equipped. No issues at all. Highlights were tea and cake at the Thornham Deli after a walk .

The Smith's, 13th of March 2023

A lovely, cosy home for us to relax in after chilly walks along the coastal path. We loved the conservatory for breakfast and appreciate how well the whole house is equipped.

The Mepsted's, 13th of December 2022

A very comfortable and impeccably clean place to stay, and so ideally situated in Burnham Market. It is my second visit to Harpers and find it excellent. Thank you very much for the generous welcome hamper! Very roomy and well stocked with everything that could be needed. Good to have space for parking in the drive, and a private garden. The bed was so lovely and comfortable. I will love to stay at Harpers again.

Brenda, 17th of October 2022

We loved our stay at Harpers Cottage. The cottage itself is lovely and the pictures don’t do it justice. Nicely decorated, clean and a well equipped kitchen. Perfectly placed to explore the local beaches and forests with the dogs. We will certainly be back again. Loved being so close to the beautiful dog friendly beaches. Holkham and Wells Beaches are lovely and we had a great time strolling along the beach and playing in the dunes (the dogs!)

faulks, 18th of July 2019

Like it's peaceful location and general welcoming atmosphere, we have stayed here before and would again!

Mrs Fisher, 25th of May 2019

Very well equipped, good instruction books, very easy to stay in. We rent cottages in the UK at least once a month, I can honestly say that no one has ever given the level of service offered by Sowerbys, previously I've had to deal with agents who quite frankly went to the non-existent British Rail school of custome service, everyone here went the extra mile, thank you

Jenny Jenkinson, 28th of January 2019
