Furnace Cottage is a gorgeous conversion of part of the historic Grade II listed Old Foundry metalworks in Walsingham; originally established in 1809 and closed in 1995. The cottage was lovingly renovated by local tradesmen retaining many original features including exposed flint walls, original beams and metal cogs, to create a luxurious high-ceilinged holiday home. At the heart of this cottage is a fabulous open plan kitchen/dining and sitting area with a vaulted ceiling and staircase to a lovely mezzanine sitting room with countryside views. Up to six guests are comfortably accommodated on the ground floor within two king-size bedrooms (both en-suite) and a third twin room with a shower room.
Outside there's a fully enclosed lawned garden and off-street parking. Situated in an idyllic peaceful location with many local walks from the doorstep, it is only a short walk from Little Walsingham, a picturesque village of considerable historic interest, with its National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and the medieval ruins of the priory. The pretty village has two good pubs, cafes, an excellent bistro (Victorious), and a renowned local farm shop. Just 10 minutes drive away, or a short journey on the light railway, is the coastal town of Wells-next-the Sea where you can enjoy some crabbing off the quayside, discover the vast sandy beach with its iconic beach huts and sample some fabulous local food in several top eateries.

GOOD TO KNOW
- There is parking for one car immediately at the front of the cottage and a second space around the back.
- The rear garden is fully enclosed with a high fence making it safe for small children and dogs.
- A travel cot and a high chair is available if required
- There is a Nespresso capsule coffee machine
Ground Floor
Entrance hall: a welcoming entrance with original beams, exposed flint walls and old cogs from the Foundry. There are coat pegs and boot stands.
Kitchen/Dining/Sitting area: a stunning high ceilinged space with wooden flooring and exposed flint wall .
The kitchen is well equipped with double electric oven, halogen hob, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, washer/dryer, built-in fridge, freezer and dishwasher. (A high chair is available if required). There is a dining table with six chairs and a wooden sideboard with Alexa (for music and radio), as well as a fireplace housing an electric wood burner effect fire and a large comfy L-shaped sofa.
Bedroom 1: lovely spacious room with a feature arch window, king-size bed, bedside tables and lamps, chest of drawers, armchair, TV and a long mirror.
En-suite bathroom: bath with shower over, hand basin,WC, heated towel rail and a built-in wardrobe.
Bedroom 2: another lovely room with a king-size bed, bedside tables and lamps, chest of drawers and a built-in wardrobe.
En-suite shower room: walk-in shower, hand basin.
Bedroom 3: overlooks the back garden with twin beds, bedside table and lamp, chair, wardrobe (containing a travel cot).
Shower room: this is next to bedroom 3 and has a walk-in shower, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail.

Mezzanine
Sitting Room: a light and spacious room overlooking the garden with far reaching countryside views and feature exposed brick wall. Comfortably furnished with two sofas, an armchair, coffee table, TV and DVD player.
Outside
The rear garden is fully enclosed with a high fence making it safe for small children and dogs. It is mainly lawned with a patio area which has wooden garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue.

Village
A village with a rich history of religion pilgrimage with two medieval monastic houses. The pretty village is like stepping back in time with many 14th and 15th Century buildings. There are plenty of individual shops and tea rooms, perfect for a delicious afternoon tea. The Walsingham Farm shop is a popular destination with an array of fresh produce including delicious pies, cheeses and meats.
Walsingham is still a major centre of pilgrimage. The Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham is a church of England shrine where the Virgin Mary is venerated and is named Our Lady of Walsingham. The shrine has a holy well known for its healing properties. Pilgrims receive water from the holy well accompanied by the laying on of hands and anointing. Water is often taken home by the faithful and distributed to their family and friends.
Visit
If staying from mid-January visit the Walsingham Priory for the most spectacular snowdrop walks, with carpets of snowdrops when in full bloom. You can wander around the priory remains, meander through the woods and see swathes of stunning snowdrops.
There is a light railway from Walsingham to Wells which is the longest 10 and a quarter inch narrow gauge railway in the world.

We loved the cottage - lots of space, very comfortable, garden a great bonus for the children who made full use of it. We were in Walsingham for a church conference for families at the Catholic shrine which was wonderful - but we also found time to explore the ford (which fascinated the girls) and wander about a bit locally and for a couple of trips to the beach at Wells. Thank you - we had a great stay!
Furnace cottage was wonderful! The kitchen was extremely well equipped. The living space downstairs was excellent and the cosy lounge upstairs was lovely. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were fantastic. The cottage was in a quiet village but within easy reach of the fabulous beach at Wells. It was lovely to enjoy the garden and the barbecue! Sowerby’s as agents were brilliant to deal with and very efficient. Juliana was particularly fantastic on the Saturday morning as we were leaving. Thank you!
A fantastic cottage, with a very well equipped kitchen. A lovely living space on the ground floor and a wonderful lounge upstairs. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were excellent. Had an amazing stay at Furnace Cottage despite the weather.
The cottage was immaculate and very spacious, love how a lot of the original features were kept when being renovated. It’s deceptively spacious with 3 lovely bedrooms and a bathroom for each one which was lovely to not have to share.
The kitchen is fully equipped and very clean.
Loved the upstairs bit with the TV which was a great place to escape to.
The garden is big and secure for dogs. It’s a pity we didn’t get to use it much with the weather.
A great base for exploring North Norfolk and sure we will be back.

We thoroughly enjoy our stay at this lovely cottage. Lots of space and very well equipped with everything you need for your stay. Nice views from the mezzanine lounge added to the enjoyment. The old foundry converted into cottages was a very attractive setting. Nicely situated for visiting the coast and places inland. The adults and our grandchild lived Bewilderwood (about 50 mins away). Holt country park, obviously Wells and Holkham. Lovely local walks.

Absolutely superb cottage - very new and fresh. Loads of space. Very well equipped. Dog friendly, with an enclosed garden and good dog walks from the cottage. Great cafe 2 mins away! We just loved staying here. We visit Norfolk once a year - this was a super place to stay to visit our old haunts. We will definitely re-book for next year!!
Lovely cottage in a beautiful quiet location which was an ideal base for exploring the Norfolk coast. We enjoyed the coastal walks.
We had a really nice holiday, very peaceful and it was a great place to come back to each night, very comfortable. As an added bonus we enjoyed watching the bats outside in the evenings.
It was a lovely cottage and perfect for our stay. Its central location was perfect for exploring the local area. The cottage itself having 3 bathrooms was extremely useful especially with teenage boys! There was plenty of space for people to relax. All Sowerbys holiday cottages are supplied with bed linen and towels and the cost of heating is included in the rental price.
Electric Vehicle charging
Cars may only be charged if there is an EV charging point fitted at the property. The cost of electricity is NOT included in the rental price and Sowerbys Holiday Cottages must be notified if the charger is used and an additional surcharge will be made. Due to insurance purposes, guests must never charge their car using a standard outdoor plug or an extension cable linking to a domestic plug. This is not permitted because of fire regulations regarding wiring, earthing rods and voltage restrictions; it poses a serious fire risk to standard 13 amp sockets and there is a real danger that the body of the vehicle could become live.
