Beach

Brancaster has a beautiful far reaching golden sandy beach, ideal all year-round destination. Brilliant for sunny beach days with all the family, dogs too! There is a handy kiosk shop for refreshments and all-important beach games, kites and bucket and spades and a convenient large car-park just 50m from the beach. Brancaster Golf club is also beachside, if you walk left from the golf club there is an inlet where you can often see a seal or two basking in the sunshine. Be careful to check the tide tables for access to the beach as the beach road can get flooded at high tide.

There are many wonderful beaches and villages to explore along the coastline, from Wells, iconic for the colourful beach huts to the unspoilt nature reserves of Titchwell, Holme and Snettisham.

History

A petrified forest can be seen at low tide (west of the golf club) remains of vegetation that looks a bit like black rubber.  You may also spot an old shipwreck on the beach, the remains of SS Vina which was used by the RAF for target practice before the Normandy landing.

To the east of the village is the grass covered mounds of the National Trust Branodunum Roman settlement, which is an old Saxon Shore fort, first used to protect shipping and trade on the coast

Brancaster is conveniently located along the Coastliner bus route, and has a small village shop selling grocery basics and newspapers.

Guest reviews

As per our many previous stays we found Eastwood House most satisfactory accommodation for ourselves and our two dogs.: As always the dog friendly extensive beaches and the nearby White Horse bar restaurant make our stay enjoyable even though the unkind weather did its best to take the edge of things along with an excess of dead seals for our dogs to uncover and roll upon on the beaches. Fortunately Eastwood house has good washing down facilities in its enclosed rear garden.

Terence and Joan, 17th of May 2024

Nice property at which we have stayed twice a year for the last 4 years and have rebooked for later this year and early next. Well set up for dog owners . As always and as older dog owners walking the quiet beaches of north Norfolk before the masses arrive in a few weeks.

The Rolph's, 4th of July 2023

This cottage was ideal. It was warm, cosy, spacious and very well-equipped. It was well positioned for the places we wanted to visit and we would definitely stay again

The Croft's, 4th of November 2022

At Eastwood House we like the conservatory, a bright space to cheer up those rainy days. House very nicely furnished, comfy and everything you needed. Home from home. Brilliant - Already booked next year.

The Clark's, 21st of May 2021

Eastwood House 2 Bedrooms is generally a all round good house which we like. Stayed last October and have already rebooked for Sept and June 2022

The Rolph's, 14th of May 2021

Loved the space, especially master bedroom and brilliant location for exploring area. Lovely convenient village shop just over the road. Eastwood House was well equipped; conservatory invaluable considering erratic weather; garden completely dog safe even for our little ones

The Wye's, 7th of May 2021

Eastwood House was better than expected, very well set up in the kitchen. We very much liked the fire, kitchen and the size of main bedroom. It was really good for us!
