History
Thornham is named after the Old English meaning ‘homestead or village where the thorn trees grow’. The village has a rich history and many of the buildings date back to the 16th Century. Archaeological evidence dates as far back as the Bronze Age. The village had a prosperous harbour 200 years ago and a fascinating story of a smugglers Inn and a bandit’s hideout.

A lovely house in a position for family and friends to explore this part of Norfolk. Walking the dog on the dog friendly beaches. The closeness of towns/villages to spend time exploring.Having such a beautiful house to relax in. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed their stay. One friend couldn’t get over the size of the tv in the lounge, thought he was at the cinema!
Very well presented house. Wonderful location. Coastal walks.Thornham Deli.
The house was lovely and very spacious, ideal location for exploring the surrounding villages. Deli in the village and small shops which there was a good fish and chip shop. There was a very good public house just round the corner which also did great food. Surrounding areas very accessible with plenty of amenities on the doorstep. Unfortunately the weather was not that good for us so we’re not able to make use of the garden.
Commodores House was ideal for our family get together-5 adults & 3children. I have never stayed in such a spacious & well equipped holiday home. All clean and tidy on arrival. Thornham is a lovely village to stay in with a good cafe/deli and a great pub all within very easy walking distance of the house.
Lots of wildlife to see on the doorstep too. Very short walk onto the marshes but about half an hour walk (with young children) to the beach beyond.Would love to stay here again.Booking process easy & Communication with Sowerbys all good. Dishwasher developed a fault during our stay and an engineer was swiftly dispatched to fix. Local walks with lots of birds /wildlife to see.
Excellent, well equipped, spacious property in a very quiet location that was perfect for a family (3 generations) weekend break. All furniture and fittings were of high quality and the location was perfect for local amenities as well as being ideally situated to enjoy the beauty of the North Norfolk coastline and beaches. Would have no hesitation in booking this property again. Location was perfect to explore the local area. Most of the family had not visited this area before and fell in love with the wonderful beaches (particularly Brancaster). I am sure they will be back! The whole family (10 of us) with ages from 5 to 71 had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Would definitely consider Sowerby's again for a future holiday.
This is a lovely house in a great location in Thornham. It has 5 good sized bedrooms. The kitchen and sitting room are on the first floor which is unusual as there is no sea view but the sunset light in the afternoon in the sitting room is beautiful. The laundry room, washing line and hot tank cupboard are excellent and so helpful for a seaside holiday! The location is fantastic for walks to the creek, the beach, the Deli and The Drove. We had a wonderful holiday at Commodore’s ! High tide swims at the creek at at the beach. Delicious fish from Gurneys! Sailing trip with Coastal Exploration Co, Wells.
A lovely house in a excellent location. Trips to local beaches, bird reserve, crabbing for the children.
9 /10 for cleanliness and the garden. We would stay again.
