Floorplan

Village

Docking is an attractive central village only 3-4 miles inland from the North Norfolk Coast, making a great base to stay and explore the whole of North Norfolk. It's a  traditional farming Norfolk village which boasts a village shop with post office, traditional pub and a fish and chip shop too! Its located close to Burnham Market within easy access of the coast with Brancaster to the north and Hunstanton to the west. The village also has a lovely church St Mary’s, village school and a ‘must visit’ farmers market which takes place on a Wednesday morning in the ‘Ripper Hall’ village hall

History

The village has an elevated position, in the past was nick named ‘Dry Docking’ as it had no water supply other than rainwater. In the 1760’s a single well was dug for the village providing domestic use for a farthing a bucket. The water was also transported around the village by horse and cart selling the water by the bucket.

Visit

There is such ease of access to all villages and attractions with Houghton Hall to the south and Royal Sandringham Estate and House also nearby. The superb coastline with RSBP reserves and all of the areas of outstanding natural beauty are nearby to explore. There also are lots of routes from the village for cyclists and walkers.

Guest reviews

Had a lovely weeks stay. The cottage is beautifully appointed and was very clean which was much appreciated. The view out the back is gorgeous. We love all the Norfolk beaches (even though the weather wasn’t perfect). Lots of food highlights, including apple pie ice cream at Mim’s (orchard drive), Viennese swirl at Thornham Deli and the Sunday roast at The Orange Tree in Thornham. Kids also Loved Mabel’s sweet shop in Burnham Market!

We had a wonderful stay at Charlotte Cottage. It is a gorgeous property with excellent facilities and a high level of comfort. All items we needed and more were in the cottage and it is well positioned to enjoy a Norfolk break. Thank you we will visit again. Highlights were the quality and ease of staying at the cottage. Afternoon tea at Sandringham and access to the north Norfolk coast.

The Elliott's, 16th of August 2023

A beautiful relaxing very contemporary house, quietly situated with stunning views over the fields to the hills beyond. Docking is a great base for exploring north Norfolk. Stunning views, comfortable sofas, very warm new house. Highly recommended. So peaceful and bright, but still in the heart of a community.
