Village
Possibly one of the prettiest villages in North Norfolk, this Georgian village is within easy access to the North Norfolk Coast, still with a quaint feel, with many trendy shops. The village retains a ‘step back in time’ feel with leafy green trees and picturesque village green. Burnham Market has a traditional post office, book shop and hardware shop as well as beautiful boutiques and lifestyle shops, from the butchers and baker to fine dining and deli’s. There’s a superb fishmonger Gurneys with locally caught seafood including Brancaster mussels and Cromer crab - be sure to try the amazing fresh fishcakes. It’s a lovely village to visit to peruse the shops or even for a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. There are a lot of eateries to choose from… The Hoste for fine dining or afternoon tea, No Twenty9, The Nelson, award-winning Socius, Burnham Tearoom, or Tilly’s Cafe, there’s something to suit every taste. There is also a children’s play park, hard tennis courts and two parish churches one at each end of the village. If in need of a little pampering why not book a treatment or two at The Hoste Beauty Spa.There is also a dog groomer so you can have the best pampered pooch in the village.
Visit
With a scenic ride to the coast, you can enjoy lazy days on the beaches of Brancaster or Wells. Alternatively pull on your walking boots and investigate diverse coastal path walks, taking in all the birds and wildlife. Leave the car behind and pop on the Coastal Hopper bus and do a tour from Wells and The Burnhams to Norfolk's west coast. Don't forget to visit Holkham which not only has a superb beach, but majestic Holkham Hall which is well worth a visit: hire a boat on the lake, hop on a bike to explore the woodlands, test your bravery on the rope course, play in the woodland play park, take in the breathtaking rooms and art in the main house or simply enjoy tea and cake in the courtyard cafe. If big houses are your thing there are many others to visit with Houghton Hall and its fantastic sculpture collection, the house and grounds of Royal Sandringham to name a few! Get on the water, there are many activities from kite and windsurfing in Hunstanton, sailing in Brancaster Staithe, seal and boat trips from Brancaster and Wells, or take a beautiful trip on The Coastal Exploration Company and learn about the wildlife, trading and smuggling in the salt marshes or along the coast.

Beautiful home from home stay. The house was well equipped and stylishly decorated throughout. Its location close to the heart of Burnham Market was ideal for our stay. The open plan living and dining area was ideal for two couples staying in the house. Gave us flexibility to use the space well.
Very well equipped and comfortable cottage. Access to wonderful walks in a beautiful area.
Extremely well equipped cottage. Have stayed before and would definitely stay again. Close proximity to the lovely beaches and of course Burnham Market itself with great fishmonger, butcher etc.Thank you for a great break!
Well appointed comfortable cottage on the outskirts of Burnham Market. It’s easy walking distance to the village green via the footpath from Station Road, where we found everything we needed. Spacious lounge area and 3 double bedrooms with ensuite, ideal for our guests, including my elderly parents.
Gentle walks along the North Norfolk coast path, touring the local coastal villages, Creake Abbey farmers’ market and Holt craft market, north Norfolk heritage railway journey from Holt to Sheringham was a highlight for my elderly parents, who grew up here. The very kind owner of Picnic Fayre in Cley next the sea, set in the old forge where my grandmother was born, took details for a local historian to get in touch with my father. He was very willing to chat and showed my father photos of the forge before its restoration, despite being closing time.
Fabulous property - first time staying in Attractive contemporary decor- plenty of space and good facilities with all bedrooms having en-suites. Good level of comfort - beds and furniture. And cleanliness. Really lovely garden - in-spite of the weather was able to sit out- the old railway platform forms the upper patio, then steps down to garden - and a great pergola is a nice addition. There is quality range of equipment , plenty of cups/glasses in the kitchen.Loved the location- good parking-short walk into Burnham market Village - enjoyed all it has to offer - lovely shops, able to buy fresh local produce, and take advantage of good restaurants and pubs. Will book again. Being with family in a lovely , relaxing property in a lovely location Eating at the Hoste Arms and Socius - Twenty9- fabulous.Location - able to walk to village and then seek out the wonderful beaches / walks not far away. So much to see and do in area.Ease of parking.
Lovely cottage, well equipped, great location and very comfortable.
This was our 2nd visit to 1 Railway Cottages and our umpteenth to Burnham Market. Of all the properties we have stayed in, this will be our go to property in the future, when it is available. Its amenities and position are ideal for us, particularly the 3 en-suite bedrooms. Walking to/around Brancaster Staithe, Holkham, Burnham Thorpe and Wells, with their pubs and restaurants.
The property was extremely well presented and we particularly liked the downstairs sitting area which was really conducive to creating a family atmosphere. We enjoyed taking our two dogs out for walks on the many local beaches which were stunning. We also had a couple of fantastic meals in no 29!
One of the nicest cottages we've rented from you. Well equipped clean and nicely decorated. The Christmas tree and table centre were lovely touches. Highlights going to Holkham xmas food and drink market and Dinner at Socious
We were very pleased with the cleanliness of the cottage; the amenities and layout. We particularly liked the 3 en-suite bathrooms. The garden looked lovely to sit out in, although the time of year precluded this. The cottage’s location is great for accessing the village shops, bus stops etc. We would definitely recommend the cottage and will undoubtedly return. We enjoyed The restaurants/bars Twenty9 The Green, The White Horse and Lord Nelson in Burnham Thorpe.
Lovely well equipped very clean cottage, Fantastic base in Burnham Market to explore lovely Norfolk. Very dog friendly and secure back garden and lovely to have the covered over seating area. Fantastic fish and chips and Chinese just up the road. Would definitely stay here again felt like a true home from home. We were sad to leave but left feeling refreshed after a lovely holiday. We hired a beach hut from happy hut and had a fantastic day Max the dauchhound loved it too. The walled garden at Holkham hall is lovely well worth a visit. We went to the Lord Nelson at Burnham Thorpe twice warm welcome, lovely food and doggy friendly. Burnham market is so lovely with nice shops. A fantastic base close to beaches and within easy reach of Sandringham and Holkham.
Ideal location, roomy accommodation and pleasant surroundings. Being able to walk to the village and catch local buses to all local beaches.
We have stayed here for many years when it was owned by the Hoste. It is a lovely cottage still kept in good condition. It was a really nice touch to have bag of crisps and bottle of cava on arrival. Also to have essentials coffee and tea etc, It was to celebrate my husbands birthday so nice to have family with us and to stay somewhere as nice as your home.
The most fab stay for our family. Thank you so much. Such a well equipped house! Highly recommend The Folks Coffee Co, Westgate, Blakeney and of course the wonderful Holkham Hall. Park run on the Saturday is lovely.
We had a lovely weekend a 1 Railway Cottage. The cottage was very comfortable, well-equipped, tastefully furnished and warm! Perfect, thank you!
