I have yet to brave the sea in winter, but there are plenty who espouse the merits of open water swimming and cold water therapy. Norfolk has plenty of stunning spots to take the plunge if you are so inclined, but Holme, Brancaster and Holkham beaches are magical even from the shoreline – you might even spot a seal bobbing alongside the hardy swimmers.
On Christmas morning head for Hunstanton to join the famous Christmas Day swim raising money for local good causes. This is an event stretching back over 60 years with large crowds cheering on the very game or perhaps considering the temperature of the north sea, slightly bonkers participants!
