Village

The attractive village of South Creake (twinned with North Creake) has a lovely village green at its heart with the river Burn that runs through. When visiting the village, you will see the much-loved resident ducks crossing the road from the houses for a swim on the river. There is a lovely leafy recreation ground, park and village hall making it the hub of the village. You will often see local produce such as cakes and homegrown vegetables for sale from the small way-side stalls in the village and there is a thriving plant nursery and cafe. There is a welcoming community spirt in the village, making it a perfect place to unwind and take in the Norfolk air.

The Ostrich Inn, dating from the 1800s, has been refurbished to a high standard and now serves delicious locally sourced food in attractive surroundings.

History

On the hill above the village can be found the remnants of Bloodgate Hill fort, an Iron Age fortification that is the largest hill fort in Norfolk. It probably dates back around 300 years before the Romans. Roman coins and pottery have been found in the surrounding farmlands of the village.

Visit

Well worth a visit is Creake Abbey just outside of the village of North Creake with a lovely speciality shops. There is also an award-winning farmers' market on the last Saturday of each month. Close to Fakenham is the Pensthorpe Nature Reserve making for a lovely day out with walks around the lakes, gardens and also great fun for all the family with splendid children’s indoor and outdoor play areas. With the vast sandy beaches of the North Norfolk Coast just a short journey away at Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham, this village is a great base from which to explore North Norfolk.

It looked lovely on the website but it was even nicer in real life. It felt like a home-from-home, very cosy and well-equipped. We mostly liked the birds singing in the morning, the peace & quiet in a lovely location. The property was very well-equipped for all needs and benefited from full sun throughout the day. We had a lovely stay in this fabulous property. Enjoyed our (long-awaited) time together, with lots of fun and laughter, creating wonderful memories for all generations from age 12-81. Thank you

Once again, a lovely stay in Holly House. There’s nothing new I can say about the areas as know it so well having visited Norfolk for over 30 years, but what is a delight is being able now to spend time with family etc. Here in South Creake. So restful & cosy with everything a family wants here at Holly House. Thank you!

Margaret, Tommy, Amy & George, 12th of October 2019

Lovely big house in a quiet spot with well stock and cozy. Wonderful scenery around local towns. Dogs had a fantastic time! Local history surrounding South Creake is easily accessible and very interesting. Would stay again, a very fun and relaxing holiday!

Clare, John, George Olivia & dogs, 26th of August 2019

We stayed at Holly house with our two children and Grandmothers in tow, for a weekend in June. It is a beautiful spacious homely home, with very comfortable beds and good facilities. Lots of games for the children to play and a good sized enclosed garden for them to run around in. The location is great for exploring North Norfolk, set in a very pretty village and with a short drive to local beaches and towns. We wouldn't hesitate to book this property again !

The Bakers, 4th of July 2019

Ref Holly House This cottage is in a quiet back street of South Creake. We have stayed many times with different members of the family who love it too. It is very well equipped, homely and comfortable and closest to Wells and Holkham beaches. The cottage has a playroom equipped with toys and games and plenty of dvd's for children. Good WiFi signal. The playpark and stream with ducks to feed is closeby. Good walks from cottage. Can highly recommend the Duck at Stanhoe which is an excellent pub for food. We will always return here in the future. Margaret and Richard, June 2019, 28th of June 2019

Holly House was perfect for our girly weekend away! It was very spacious and well equipped, with beautiful decor and little touches that made it feel like a home away from home. The large kitchen/diner opens up onto the garden - a sun trap that we were lucky enough to be able to take full advantage of. It was fantastic for a few glasses of rosé and a bbq! The village is picturesque and lovely for a stroll to see the ducks on the green. Holly House is a brilliant base to go and explore the north Norfolk coast from, however, we found that we didn’t want to leave! We can’t wait to come back next year for another wonderful weekend.

Claire and friends, 28th of June 2019

A home from home and a wonderful house, well equipped and perfect for our girls weekend away. It won’t be the last time we visit as a group!

Georgina & friends, 28th of June 2019

Once again another chance to come to Holly House. Just love coming here. So ideally situated and not too far away from the coastline. Good walks from the house. Always good food at the Duck at Stanhoe. Holme-next-Sea now nice and quiet on the Monday.

Cottage so lovely and comfortable with everything that is needed. Thank you Rachel

Margaret Hillson & family.x, 21st of June 2019

We loved our stay at Holly House. The house itself is beautifully relaxing and all the amenities we needed. It’s decorated so it feels cosy but also fresh. We loved the log fire but also having the kitchen doors open when it was sunny. The village is so quiet and peaceful, especially the green just up the road. The location is ideal for the beaches and restaurants. We’d definitely come and stay here again. Thank you!x Victoria, Aimee

Victoria and Aimee, 7th of June 2019

We just loved your beautiful house and had the most fantastic weekend away with much loved friends. Our girls adored paddling in the stream, hunting for treasures and we had a great fun completing an easter egg hunt in the garden. Fantastically situated for exploring our favourite county – all the usual places visited – Brancaster beach, The Jolly Sailors, The pigs at Edgefield and Wells of course. Thank you

The Saberton’s & Trill’s, 19th of April 2019

Had a wonderful Christmas enjoyed area and comfort of your cottage – everything we needed was here and more. Thank you. Decorations perfect.

The Robinson family, 21st of December 2018

Holly House is a home from home and idea for family gatherings. Our most recent visit was this December 2018 when we went to celebrate a family birthday. The house seems cosy yet big enough for large groups. It has everything you would need for self catering with the lovely large kitchen diner with doors opening to the garden when the weather is good and it's in an ideal location for days out visiting the beach and lots of lovely restaurants. We have already booked to go again next December and will hopefully get there again before December. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Sally, Philip and family, 6th of December 2018

The perfect stay! We took my mum for her 80th birthday celebrations and this was the perfect place for it. The house was immaculate, perfectly equipped and in a great location. There was a wide age range from 7 to 80 and the house was able to accommodate everybody and their different needs. The wonderful kitchen dining area was the perfect spot to get together after buy days as well as the cosy lounge with log burner. The proximity to the coast, in particular Wells-Next-Sea for us, and Holkham Hall was spot on and allows for easy to access to great days out. The enclosed garden and utility area were perfect for the dog, especially at the end of a sandy wet day at the beach. We cannot recommend Holly House highly enough and are looking forward to our next visit. It didn’t have the feel of a holiday let but that of a family home from home.

The Walls, 18th of November 2018

I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoy staying at your beautiful cottage. We've been a few times and we always feel that we can relax there and enjoy the fantastic location, the welcoming feel of the cottage, comfy beds, and sociable kitchen / dining area. The tweenagers revert to being children and love staying in the bunk bed room with their friends, playing games and exploring the village, as well as the stream at the bottom of the garden!. The flexible accommodation means that Granny can come along too and feel comfortable and private. We love the time we've spent at Holly House and hope to visit in the near future!

Sophie, Alex and Family, 19th of October 2018

Holly House provided my family and I the perfect base for a lovely long weekend in Norfolk. It is situated in a beautiful village with easy access to the coast and particularly Wells, Burnham Market and Brancaster. The cottage has all the facilities of home which makes it great for the children and catering is easy with the lovely kitchen-diner being perfect for family meals and evening get togethers. The garden is ideal for lazy mornings and the stream at the end of the garden is an absolute bonus. I would definitely recommend to others as the perfect Norfolk retreat.
