Village

Possibly one of the prettiest villages in North Norfolk, this Georgian village is within easy access to the North Norfolk Coast, still with a quaint feel, with many trendy shops. The village retains a ‘step back in time’ feel with leafy green trees and picturesque village green. Burnham Market has a traditional post office, book shop and hardware shop as well as beautiful boutiques and lifestyle shops, from the butchers and baker to fine dining and deli’s. There’s a superb fishmonger Gurneys with locally caught seafood including Brancaster mussels and Cromer crab - be sure to try the amazing fresh fishcakes. It’s a lovely village to visit to peruse the shops or even for a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. There are a lot of eateries to choose from… The Hoste for fine dining or afternoon tea, No Twenty9, The Nelson, award-winning Socius, Burnham Tearoom, or Tilly’s Cafe, there’s something to suit every taste. There is also a children’s play park, hard tennis courts and two parish churches one at each end of the village. If in need of a little pampering why not book a treatment or two at The Hoste Beauty Spa.There is also a dog groomer so you can have the best pampered pooch in the village.

Visit

With a scenic ride to the coast, you can enjoy lazy days on the beaches of Brancaster or Wells. Alternatively pull on your walking boots and investigate diverse coastal path walks, taking in all the birds and wildlife. Leave the car behind and pop on the Coastal Hopper bus and do a tour from Wells and The Burnhams to Norfolk's west coast. Don't forget to visit Holkham which not only has a superb beach, but majestic Holkham Hall which is well worth a visit: hire a boat on the lake, hop on a bike to explore the woodlands, test your bravery on the rope course, play in the woodland play park, take in the breathtaking rooms and art in the main house or simply enjoy tea and cake in the courtyard cafe. If big houses are your thing there are many others to visit with Houghton Hall and its fantastic sculpture collection, the house and grounds of Royal Sandringham to name a few! Get on the water, there are many activities from kite and windsurfing in Hunstanton, sailing in Brancaster Staithe, seal and boat trips from Brancaster and Wells, or take a beautiful trip on The Coastal Exploration Company and learn about the wildlife, trading and smuggling in the salt marshes or along the coast.

Another comfortable and enjoyable stay. A clean, warm, well equipped property.

The Scott's, 4th of March 2024

Beautiful place, well situated.

The Spencer's, 1st of December 2023

Our third visit to Oystercatchers which is still as comfortable, well furnished and equipped as it was on our first visit in 2018 when it was newly built and furnished. We have stayed in twelve other Burnham Market properties all managed by Sowerbys with different members of our family over the last 20 years and this rates the best for four without a dog. We were able to walk and birdwatch on a relatively warm and dry week. I We enjoyed a restaurant week lunch at The White Horse with friends who live locally and a dinner at The Hoste. Food much improved at the Hoste.

The Scott's, 6th of November 2023

Our third visit to the property which is still our favourite for a dog free stay in Burnham Market. It is warm and comfortable with everything you need for a luxurious self catering stay. Despite hurricane warnings the rain kept away during the daytime and we enjoyed daily walks and bird watching . We had a restaurant week lunch at The White Horse with friends who live locally and dinner at The Hoste. Both meals were very good.

Another lovely stay at Oystercatchers. It’s such a lovely holiday home . We have stayed here many times and it never fails to impress.
The recent paint job and minor refurbs were noted and appreciated.. Just being in North Norfolk in Autumn is a highlight. Great coastal walks and The Parlour and Bisham Abbey was a great find

A well looked after property that had everything that could be needed. It is obviously well maintained, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. A good week. Fitzpatrick party, 3rd of August 2018

Superb property which we will recommend to others.

Parry Party, 13th of April 2018

Having never been to Burnham before we didn't realise how nice the village and area is.
We particularly appreciated how large Oystercatchers is.
We only need two bedrooms and I usually book a three or four bed just to get extra living space.
So it was a nice surprise to get a spacious two bedroomed house.
We liked everything about the property and location.

Concanen Party, 30th of March 2018

It is a newly built, light and airy property in a great location.
It is very well equipped with really comfortable beds and sofas.
The kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal.
It's very quiet, but a very quick walk to Burnham Market village Green.
We had a lovely time, we liked the super king beds.
I wish more property owners would supply decent beds!
