Flagstaff Cottage is in the grounds of Flagstaff House which was once the home of Captain Woodget of the Cutty Sark and is situated in a prime position at Burnham Overy Staithe. The Cottage has been refurbished to a high standard and has absolutely breath-taking views from the large open plan first floor living area across the creek, the staithe and out to sea.
It may be rented with the adjoining Flagstaff Boathouse to provide accommodation for up to 12, or with Flagstaff East, West and Garden House to sleep up to 25 people.

Ground Floor
There are stone floors throughout. Spacious entrance hall.
Bedroom 1: Twin beds, bedside table and lamp, wardrobe, chest of drawers and en-suite bathroom: bath, WC and hand basin.
Bedroom 2: Twin beds with bedside table and lamp, wardrobe, chest of drawers.
Wet Room: Power shower, WC and hand basin.
Bedroom 3: Double bed, bedside tables and lamps, chest of drawers, built-in cupboards and en-suite bathroom: bath with shower mixer taps, WC and hand basin.
Utility Room: Washing machine tumble drier, airing cupboard.
First Floor
One large room with fantastic views across the staithe - really does need to be seen to be appreciated! Has a lovely spacious sitting area, dining area and fitted kitchen - each with stunning views.
Sitting Area: Has a wood burning stove, comfortable sofas, Smart TV.
Dining Area: Table and 6 chairs with stunning views to enjoy whilst dining.
Kitchen: Well equipped with a built-in fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric oven, microwave.
Duvet and pillows are natural down and feather.
Outside
Ideally positioned close to the harbour with a large communal parking area. There is a large lawned garden with garden furniture which is shared with the four other Flagstaff properties.
One dog is welcome, subject to owners agreement, for a fee of £40.00 per dog.

Harbour/Beach
A picturesque fishing and sailing harbour with multiple winding tidal creeks and salt marshes stretching from the harbour side and leading to sand dunes: the biggest known as Gun Hill. From Burnham Overy Staithe you can take a scenic walk to Gun Hill which takes about half an hour. In the summer there is lovely wildlife to be spotted including wading birds and beautiful butterflies. A gap in the dunes, locally known as Burnham Harbour, opens up and there are miles of golden sandy beaches stretching out towards Holkham and Wells to be admired. During the summer there is a ferry out to the nature reserve of Scolt Head Island which is a lovely trip for bird watchers and seal spotters.
Village
An area of outstanding natural beauty, the village is a large hamlet and a great destination for your stay. The views across the harbour are lovely whatever time of year you decide to visit. There is a great little gastro pub in the centre of the village called The Hero (in honour of Admiral Lord Nelson) which has a great menu of tasty dishes. Also, in the centre of the village there is a large playing field with hard tennis courts and basketball area and a children’s playground. Just outside the village is the noticeable landmark of the stunning six-storey Burnham Overy Windmill and neighbouring watermill, although neither are open to the public, they stand proud on the edge of the village, a beautiful sight when the sun catches the sails against Norfolk's big blue skies. In June Burnham Overy Staithe hosts the popular Norfolk Superhero Challenge, a quadraphonic event where teams of 2 work together to swim, kayak, cycle and run across the beaches and through the creeks. A lovely charity event to spectate. To pop to one of the other coastal villages you can catch the Coasthopper Bus which runs along the coast through many of the delightful villages and seaside towns - a great green way to explore the coast and without the worry of where to park!
History
Part of Burnham Overy was the original port for The Burnhams and set on the river Burn. Trading ships once reached the village by the river until the end of the Middle Ages when the river silted up and along with it the commercial trade. Until the end of the First World War the trading ships used the Staithe. This made a distinction between the two villages Burnham Overy Town and Burnham Overy Staithe that exist a mile apart from one another today. The most notable resident of Burnham Overy Staithe is Richard Woodget who resided at one of our cottages Flagstaff East/West and was the captain of the Cutty Sark. Horatio, Admiral Lord Nelson according to letters learned to row and sail a dinghy at Burnham Overy Staithe at the age of 10 just two years before joining the Navy.
Visit
A great central location on the north Norfolk Coast right on the coastal path ideal for popping on your walking books and walking for about 30 minutes to reach the glorious wide open beach. If you are looking for family days out there are the beaches of Wells and Brancaster where you can park nearby and reach the beaches within a few steps.

Burnham Overy Staithe is one of the best places to visit on the North Norfolk coast. We felt very lucky to stay in a lovely cottage with amazing views over the water and out to Scolts Head. Perfect for watching the boats, birds and all life.
The desgin of the upstairs is wonderful for holidays with the open plan kitchen and sitting area with the wood burning stove and plenty of chairs and sofas. Thank you for letting us stay here, we would love to come again. The amazing view to the creek from the sitting room window - this is what made us book the cottage! We had some wonderful walks from the cottage out to the sea. It was always warm in the cottage, it was peaceful and we felt very happy there, thank you Flagstaff Cottage.
We had a fabulous week. Beautiful location. Love the layout of the cottage and the nieces from the living room. Cottage is well equipped.Walking across the marsh from the cottage and the fireworks on New Years Eve was the highlight.
The views from the upper windows are what make staying in this property so special.
Unrivalled view across the staithe. Open plan worked perfectly. Log burner so cosy though a shame only logs for first fire. Shabby chic decor. We enjoyed watching water activities and changing tides on staithe through windows. Dining table and little coffee table well positioned for this.
We stay here every year and it was as lovely as ever, although marred by Jane falling when running on the sea wall. We can recommend A&E at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn, and the new Burnhams Surgery! Our highlights are the walking, the view, the birds and the Hero! Thanks for the list of emergency phone numbers in the Flagstaff folder. Jane had a dislocated and fractured wrist. Very painful, but at least we could still go for walks!
The proximity to the water was the thing that bowled us over. The cottage was warm and comfortable, the beds were very comfortable. We brought bikes, so the rear of the bin store area was perfect for us to keep them.
At Flagstaff Cottage we liked most of all the view. Also the spacious living area, easy access to other local villages, walking distance to the pub. Also, with 2 dogs, the utility/laundry room off the hall was really useful.
Flagstaff Cottage was V spacious and the property was very clean. We especially liked the sea views, plenty of space, well-equipped. Excellent holiday cottage, we will definitely be back.

Better than Expected. The proximity to the spectacular view was even better than we had anticipated . The arrangement of the rooms in the house was perfect. The large living area upstairs was very similar to home so we were able to continue those benefits with a splendid view! The utility room was a perfect bedroom for our dog. 10 out of 10 for cleanliness. 10 out of 10 for the outside space. We loved the geography of the rooms and it’s location.
This was by far the best holiday let accommodation we have ever stayed in- total perfection, Thank you.
The view was so spectacular.
We were very touched by the Christmas tree and decorations such a lovely touch.

All Sowerbys holiday cottages are supplied with bed linen and towels and the cost of heating is included in the rental price.
Electric Vehicle charging
Cars may only be charged if there is an EV charging point fitted at the property. The cost of electricity is NOT included in the rental price and Sowerbys Holiday Cottages must be notified if the charger is used and an additional surcharge will be made. Due to insurance purposes, guests must never charge their car using a standard outdoor plug or an extension cable linking to a domestic plug. This is not permitted because of fire regulations regarding wiring, earthing rods and voltage restrictions; it poses a serious fire risk to standard 13 amp sockets and there is a real danger that the body of the vehicle could become live.
