Bliss Cottage is a luxurious part of a period listed building close to the picturesque quay and bustling town centre of Wells. Great care and attention has been taken to create this stylish contemporary holiday home, beautifully appointed furnishings and fittings throughout.
Downstairs there's a stunning open plan kitchen/sitting area and a separate dining room/TV room, with two gorgeous bedrooms upstairs each with their own modern bath/shower room. Plantation shutters and thermostatically controlled underfloor heating and radiators ensure that guests will be warm and comfortable throughout the year. Outside there's a courtyard garden and the advantage of being able to explore the delights of Wells and its gorgeous sandy beach on foot.

Ground Floor

Kitchen: a stylish contemporary well-equipped kitchen with integral appliances which include a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, double electric oven with an induction hob and a washing machine. There is a breakfast bar with four comfy bar stools.
Sitting area: has a charcoal grey large corner sofa and a wall-mounted Smart TV with a DVD player.
Dining/TV Room: Has a dining table with four chairs, a sofa and a wall-mounted Smart TV. An ideal room for children or those wishing to escape from everyone else!
First Floor
The staircase leads up from the sitting area and is not steep with a hand rail.
Bedroom 1: a beautifully presented room with a king-size upholstered bed, bedside tables and lamps, wardrobe, armchair and a chest of drawers. There are two steps up to the en-suite shower room: superb contemporary walk-in shower, vanity basin, WC and heated towel rail.
Bedroom 2: a lovely high-ceilinged room with twin upholstered beds (which may be pushed together), bedside tables and lamps and a chest of drawers.
Bathroom: a spacious contemporary bathroom with a bath with fixed overhead shower, vanity basin, WC and chrome heated towel rail.
All the bedding is of a high quality and is non-allergenic.
Outside
There is a west-facing courtyard garden which is shingled with a variety of pots. There is an outside table and chairs and a barbecue for guests to enjoy dining al-fresco.
Unrestricted, on-street parking is available nearby on neighbouring roads or there is a public (Pay & Display) car-park less than 50m away. (The owner is happy for us to reimburse a weekly Pay and Display ticket to guests who send us proof of purchase)
It only takes a minute to walk to the picturesque quay and the great selection of shops and places to eat on offer in Wells.

With its big blue skies and sandy beach, Wells award-winning beach is a popular family destination about a mile from the quay. It's well known for its long stretch of sand, iconic row of beach huts, sand dunes and pine woods.
Village
It's a delightful unspoilt historic town on the North Norfolk Coast with a jumble of old buildings and lanes still existing from its heritage as a port and former maltings industry. The picturesque quay and waterfront is still very much a working port with fishing boats still berthed in this small harbour and stalls selling locally caught shrimps, crabs and whelks. A popular place with sailors with many sailing and leisure craft here and local sailing tuition available. A distinctive landmark on the quay is the granary building with its overhanging gantry. Children enjoy the facilities round the quay and the challenge of crabbing (gillying) from the steep harbour wall.
The main shopping area of Wells is Staithe Street, a narrow, mostly pedestrianised lane with surviving Victorian and Edwardian shop fronts, that runs from the water's edge right up to the top part of town. In the centre of the town is The Buttlands which is a large rectangular green lined with Georgian and late Victorian houses, which used to be used for archery practise in mediaeval days. Now it is home to the excellent Crown hotel and restaurant which is run by Kiwi celebrity chef Chris Coubrough, as well as the popular The Globe Inn.
The quay has become one of the North Norfolk’s most popular and well-loved seaside destinations with a great selection of shops, galleries and places to eat, including the award winning French's fish & chips.
History
The name derives from the spring water which rises up through the chalk area. Guella is the name given in the doomsday book and later derived from Wella meaning spring. The supply of corn and grain was the main trade for the town of Wells, its seaport dates back to the fourteenth century. Wells was also known for the supply of malt, the town boasted to have up to twelve maltings and in 1750 this equated to a third of the exports of malt from the country. Wells port widely relies on the tides to gain access to the harbour as there is not a river running through it. Between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries its mariners were the first to bring herring and cod in large quantities from Iceland.
Visit
Only a couple of miles away along the coast road is Holkham Hall with its impressive 18th century Palladian architecture and 3,000 acre deer park. This is a must visit location for all the family with many lovely events taking place at Holkham throughout the year. There is also a nature reserve in and around the Holkham which includes all manner of wildlife habitats, flora and fauna. You can visit the Lookout for panoramic views whilst enjoying a cuppa located at the top of Lady Anne’s Drive. The beach at Holkham is absolutely beautiful and has often been used as the location for many films and music videos including ‘Shakespeare in Love’ and ‘The Duchess’. You will often see families with their four-legged friend or even weekend horse riders, or if you are lucky the Household Cavalry at the beach.

We had an enjoyable stay at Bliss Cottage which was clean and well appointed. It is well situated in Wells and a good starting off point for visiting elsewhere on the North Norfolk coast. My sister and I are birdwatchers so the highlights for us were hearing the skeins of winter geese flying over the cottage in the early hours and then seeing them in the harbour and at Holkham.
It is a very comfortable, warm cottage. The location is ideal for the coastal bus which we made good use of, also the Crab House, the beach bus, the East Quay and Staithe Street . I love Wells.
The location and the contemporary style of the cottage were great . We loved being within walking distance of the town and its amenities, but far enough away from any noise. Very clean, comfortable and well maintained . Great location, being so close to picturesque villages, beaches, coastal walks, pubs, restaurants etc. Roads are comparatively quiet.

Visiting the many bird-watching locations on the North Norfolk coast, walking the coast, cycling through the quiet picturesque villages. Eating at Thornham Deli, and the Two Magpies Bakeries in Blakeney and Holt, and the best lunch at the Tuscan Farm Shop in Burnham Market

We loved out stay at Bliss Cottage and are booking again for next year. Better than Expected - 10 out of 10 for cleaning and 10 out of 10 for garden. Everything - well thought out in terms of how the space will actually be used. We have been coming to Wells for 7 years and this is the first cottage we have wanted to return too.

All Sowerbys holiday cottages are supplied with bed linen and towels and the cost of heating is included in the rental price.
Electric Vehicle charging
Cars may only be charged if there is an EV charging point fitted at the property. The cost of electricity is NOT included in the rental price and Sowerbys Holiday Cottages must be notified if the charger is used and an additional surcharge will be made. Due to insurance purposes, guests must never charge their car using a standard outdoor plug or an extension cable linking to a domestic plug. This is not permitted because of fire regulations regarding wiring, earthing rods and voltage restrictions; it poses a serious fire risk to standard 13 amp sockets and there is a real danger that the body of the vehicle could become live.
