Things to do in North Norfolk

All of our cottages and houses are within easy reach of both the cathedral city of Norwich and the port of King's Lynn with its famous Tuesday Market Place and Annual Festival of Arts.
There is easy access to the coast with many delightful beaches, harbours and villages.  The area boasts a splendid 'season' of entertainment, guaranteed to keep children and adults busy and interested all summer long.

Brancaster is a popular coastal village with a long sandy beach, The Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, village shops, post office and social club.  In Brancaster Staithe and Burnham Overy Staithe there are hard areas giving access to harbours which are ideal for sailing and other aquatic activites.

Lively sailing clubs in the many harbours and fishing ports welcome temporary members and there are first class golf links at Hunstanton, Sheringham and Brancaster.

Wells-Next-The-Sea is a busy fishing port and sailing centre with a fine beach.  The town provides many shops and other facilities.

Hunstanton is a popular seaside town.  It has live theatre, sports centre, major supermarkets and shops.  Its annual Open Tennis Tournament is held in August and village tennis clubs are open to visitors.

Burnham Market
Burnham Market

The historic village of Burnham Market holds annual fetes and fairs in its colourful market place. Towns and villages throughout the area also hold various summer activities.  Fakenham has a weekly market.

There are musical recitals and concerts held regularly in the ancient Saxon churches - most also holding annual festivals.  Living museums and animal farms attract adults and children alike and Fakenham's racecourse is very popular.

The area boasts many stately homes.  The Earl of Leicester's Holkham Park, the Queen's Sandringham House and National Trust's Blickling Hall.  Also Houghton Hall houses the largest collection of toy soldiers in the world.  These properties and many more are open to the public.

With the season's change, the coast becomes particularly desolate and beautiful.  The winter months are a wonderful time for those who like to walk and birdwatch in the famous nature reserves of Cley, Titchwell and Snettisham, where thousands of overwintering birds can be watched - or you can just sit around cosy fires in one of the many ancient pubs.

This is Lord Nelson's country and several hostelries bear his name.   As nights draw in, there are many good restaurants offering varied menus, but always including wonderfully fresh local fish.

With its combination of charm and peace, this has to be THE place for anyone seeking an 'away-from-it-all' holiday.
