Burnham Thorpe

An attractive village about 2 miles inland, which is renowned for being the place of Nelson's birth. Unfortunately, the rectory where he was born was demolished just after his father died, but there is a roadside plaque marking its site.  The church was restored in Nelson's honour in the 19th century and contains a cross and a lecturn both made from timbers from HMS Victory.

There is a large central village green with a childrens play area and a renowned local pub - The Nelson - which has a good collection of Nelson memorabilia and must be the only pub in Norfolk without a bar!
