Village

Possibly one of the prettiest villages in North Norfolk, this Georgian village is within easy access to the North Norfolk Coast, still with a quaint feel, with many trendy shops. The village retains a ‘step back in time’ feel with leafy green trees and picturesque village green. Burnham Market has a traditional post office, book shop and hardware shop as well as beautiful boutiques and lifestyle shops, from the butchers and baker to fine dining and deli’s. There’s a superb fishmonger Gurneys with locally caught seafood including Brancaster mussels and Cromer crab - be sure to try the amazing fresh fishcakes. It’s a lovely village to visit to peruse the shops or even for a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. There are a lot of eateries to choose from… The Hoste for fine dining or afternoon tea, No Twenty9, The Nelson, award-winning Socius, Burnham Tearoom, or Tilly’s Cafe, there’s something to suit every taste. There is also a children’s play park, hard tennis courts and two parish churches one at each end of the village. If in need of a little pampering why not book a treatment or two at The Hoste Beauty Spa.There is also a dog groomer so you can have the best pampered pooch in the village.

Visit

With a scenic ride to the coast, you can enjoy lazy days on the beaches of Brancaster or Wells. Alternatively pull on your walking boots and investigate diverse coastal path walks, taking in all the birds and wildlife. Leave the car behind and pop on the Coastal Hopper bus and do a tour from Wells and The Burnhams to Norfolk's west coast. Don't forget to visit Holkham which not only has a superb beach, but majestic Holkham Hall which is well worth a visit: hire a boat on the lake, hop on a bike to explore the woodlands, test your bravery on the rope course, play in the woodland play park, take in the breathtaking rooms and art in the main house or simply enjoy tea and cake in the courtyard cafe. If big houses are your thing there are many others to visit with Houghton Hall and its fantastic sculpture collection, the house and grounds of Royal Sandringham to name a few! Get on the water, there are many activities from kite and windsurfing in Hunstanton, sailing in Brancaster Staithe, seal and boat trips from Brancaster and Wells, or take a beautiful trip on The Coastal Exploration Company and learn about the wildlife, trading and smuggling in the salt marshes or along the coast.

Guest reviews

The cottage was beautifully warm, clean and well-equipped. A great location for walking into town and reaching the fabulous beaches of Brancaster and Holkham. Winter walks along deserted beaches at Holkham and Brancaster. On a wet day enjoying a superb lunch at Socius in Burnham Market. Good support beforehand from Sowerby's. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thank you.

The Fox's, 4th of March 2024

A lovely stay in this comfortable homely cottage which is in a great location - just a few minutes walk into the centre of Burnham Market and it's shops, cafes and pub/restaurants. Easy parking on the road outside the cottage. Dog friendly garden is ideal and a lovely spot for enjoying a drink or meal outside when the weather permits.
Lots of places to visit a short drive away - Wells, Holt, Salthouse, Fakenham, Brancaster to name a few. We like small towns, so enjoyed Holt - a good variety of upmarket independent shops etc - different than we have available at home.
We had two lovely lunches at the Dun Cow at Salthouse - if the weather is good, there is a great garden overlooking the marshes. Parking is a little limited so when the weather is good we suggest arriving at the start of food service.
Blakeney quay is nice for a stroll and a coffee (and boat trips), and Wells town is good for a mooch round the shops.

The Hopkins, 1st of September 2023

Good stay to focus on writing on my first book - a very comfortable writing studio! The woodburner was a highlight, (it was snowing!) and fabulous dinner at Socius.

The Moorhouse's, 15th of March 2023

The Mann's, 1st of November 2019

Better than Expected - So pretty, warm and welcoming. The property was very well cleaned. we mostly liked the stunning living room. Really comfy bed in the master bedroom.

Williams, 18th of October 2019

Better than Expected 10 out of 10 for cleanliness 8 out of 10 for the garden - As it is winter you wouldn't expect it to be perfect. Very comfortable, well designed and equipped for every need.

sheila shotter, 18th of January 2019

The property was large, well appointed and spotlessly clean.
It had everything wee needed and more, including toys for the children which they were very happy with.
The garden was well designed so in the summer it will be a great place to sit and BBQ.
