Cockle Beach is a superb beach house, ideal for a couple or a young family, ideally situated on the sand dunes of Heacham's South Beach. You can't stay closer to the Norfolk coast here, with double doors opening out from the living area to a lovely newly created paved terrace and sandy garden with views across the beach; this area is thoughtfully enclosed to prevent dogs and young children escaping.

This perfect beach house has a light, contemporary open plan kitchen/dining/sitting area looking out across the beach to the sea, with a double bedroom, a bunk room and a bath room at the rear of the property. This is a lovely place to stay throughout the year as it's toastie warm in the winter with its electric thermostatic heating and perfect for summer holidays too. The quiet beach is safe for swimming and wind-surfing, and perfect for bird enthusiasts being close to the RSPB Reserve at Snettisham.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • One of the very few locations in North Norfolk where you can access the beach directly
  • Has panoramic views of the beach from the outdoor terrace seating area
  • There is a spacious open plan family living area

GOOD TO KNOW

  • The pillows and duvets on the beds are hypoallergenic.
  • There is a Tassimo Coffee machine in the kitchen
  • Access to South beach is via an unmade sandy road.

Living area: light and spacious area with double doors opening onto the outer decked area and gorgeous beach views. Furnished in a contemporary coastal style with a comfy sitting area with blue sofas, side tables and lamps and a wall- mounted TV. Beaches

Great for families and on the Norfolk coastal path with two great beaches on the West coast overlooking The Wash: North beach and South beach (aka Stubborn Sands) are both dog friendly and form a huge 20 mile bay and enjoy the most dramatic sunsets. A perfect spot to watch the sun going down and hit the sea on a fine evening. The village enjoys a range of small shops, arcade, cafe and fish bar. There are three local pubs The West Norfolk, Fox and Hounds and Bushel and Strike.

Village

Famous for its Norfolk Lavender with aromatic gardens and fields filled with all varieties of lavender. With their own oil distillery, products, tearoom and animal garden and play park. Just next door is Farmer Freds Adventure Play Barn for children and parents to enjoy indoor play farm themed fun, as well as a great Farm Shop selling lovely local produce.

If keeping mind and body in check is your cup of tea, then a visit to Heacham Manor where you can dine, spa or book a round of golf on the lake side championship 18-hole course.

History

Famed for association with Pocahontas, the Rolfe family are the most famous inhabitants of Heacham, from the 16th century. After seeking adventure in The New World it was John Rolfe who married the Native American Rebecca (Pocahontas), and along with their 2 year old son took them back to his family home the former Heacham Hall. The image of Pocahontas adorns the village sign and also the St Mary's the Virgin Church.

Visit

For a great family day out and only a few miles away is Snettisham Park Farm. A working Farm with lovely activities for the family from egg collecting, bottle feeding lambs and pony rides to a ‘not to be missed’ deer Safari.

There are plenty of wildlife spectacles to explore, with tens of thousands of wading birds to observe from the hides at Snettisham Nature Reserve.

Hunstanton Town is just 3 miles from Heacham and is a traditional seaside town with the added addition of fun water sports such as kite surfing and windsurfing.

A visit to Sandringham House, gardens and country park is a popular destination for all. Whether you simply want to take the pooch for a stroll, or discover the royals much loved country retreat, you’ll have the grandest of days.

Guest reviews

Can not express enough how wonderful the views are from Cockle Beach, and the direct access onto the beach is great, especially with dogs. This place is all about Location, Location,Location. Inside is bright and modern. Very nice break away was had by all.

The Smith's, 26th of March 2024

Lovely cottage, fantastic location right on the beach. Ideal for walkers and bird watching both out to sea or across the river meadows inland. Nice walks along the beach and watching Barn Owls hunting regularly at dusk on the river meadows from the bedroom. Hopefully be back soon.

The Mound's, 13th of March 2024

Great time all week. Lovely.

The Thirkettle's, 12th of February 2024

The McKernan's, 27th of November 2023

A lovely, well equipped beach chalet. Stunning views of the sea, changing tides and visiting birds. Not to forget the amazing sunsets! Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to take a four legged friend to the seaside. We have already booked our next stay

The Mitchell's, 28th of October 2023

Perfect beach location. Great sea and sunset views. Well equipped kitchen and comfortable living area. Effective heating.
The sunsets are always a highlight along with dog walking on the beach. Also the local fish and seafood and the variety of pubs and restaurants within a few miles. Highlights were regular visits from a flock of goldfinches.

The Helm's, 27th of October 2023

A wonderful place. The situation is the best, it’s not a disguised caravan as are some, and the decor is simple but really welcoming.

The dyers, 16th of October 2023

Cockle beach has a brilliant position with the back garden adjacent to the sandy beach. It is ideal for a relaxing beach holiday, particularly with your four legged family members. Nearness of the beach for those early morning or evening walks with or without your dog.

The Smart's, 12th of October 2023

This was our 4th visit in 6 years and it won't be our last! We absolutely love the location - the uninterrupted sea view is what brings us back year after year. The amazing view and incredible sun-sets. Long beach walks. Bird-life. (We witnessed the 'Snettisham Spectacular' which was AMAZING!) The BEST fish and chips from Heacham fish bar!

The Elliot's, 29th of September 2023

Location, location, location. Couldn't fault it! Fantastic beach side accommodation. Flying a kite on the beach. Going for swims. Fantastic sunsets.

The Thorne's, 14th of September 2023

Easy access to the beach. Beautiful sunsets. Relaxing time. Long walks on the beach. Great visits to Sandringham Estate, Holkham and Wells. We had a wonderful time at Cockle Beach. The weather was very changeable unlike last year when it was blazing sunshine, but that didn’t matter. Lots to do in the local area. Found great restaurants this time, Silk Road II and Northgate Indian. Sandringham Country Park was a great place to walk with or without dogs and you only have to pay for parking.Holkham beach and Wells next the sea are amazing places to visit. The cottage is very well equipped and perfectly positioned. It has plenty of amenities for a family to stay and not have to bring too much from home.

The Jenkin's, 6th of September 2023

We have been coming here every year for about 8 years. We have never been able to find another place like it for positioning - right on the beach.
The owners do upgrades most years which is great - and needed to keep it looking lovely.
It always restores and nourishes us.

The Wadley's, 4th of September 2023

Myself my husband and my dog Leo, had a lovely Stay at Cockle Beach. The Property had everything That we needed to make our stay comfortable. We stayed here last year and have already booked For next year. Such a lovely place to stay. The highlight for us is that the property is right on The beach, which makes things easier for our 11 Year old dog Leo.

The Frost's, 23rd of August 2023

Absolutely love this chalet, literally on the beach but fenced and secure for dogs and children. Best view 24/7 particularly the sunsets. Being on the first line of the beach is a unique position and provides hours and days of entertainment watching the sea, water sports, people watching etc.

The Campin's, 22nd of August 2023

This was our 5th stay at Cockle Beach. The location is the selling point. Can’t be beaten. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Except for a fan, the evenings can be very warm an electric fan would have been very welcomed. We were impressed by the new paved deck area, a big improvement. Also the fenced area is now more secure for doggies. New front gate and safer steps. The Parasol was broken, it also requires a base so it can be used on the paved areas, for alfresco dining. Thank you Cockle Beach for another wonderful stay.

The Parson's, 14th of July 2023

This was our second stay at Cockle beach and we were not disappointed! It's in a fabulous position and wonderful for walking our dog. We found the owner had fixed the back, misty windows since our last visit which made looking at the wonderful view so much easier. The view, the sunsets and fabulous beach walks with the dog. The birds are amazing and, in the summer there are plenty of places to eat and drink in the vicinity. wonderful holiday have booked our winter break already!
